  2. PROJECT OBJECTIVES • O2-to promote collaborative knowledge through ICT; - realizing a joint album of personalities belonging to the cultural thesaurus of each partner using FliKr.

  3. Romanian Cultural Personalities

MihaiEminescu Mihai Eminescu (born in Botoşani on January 15th, 1850) is the most famous and influential Romanian writer and is Romania's national poet, not because he wrote in an age of national revival, but rather because he was received as an author of great significance by Romanians in all provinces. He is considered to be the last great romantic poet in Europe. His most famous work is “The Evening Star” of 99 stanzas which has been translated in more than 20 languages.

  5. George Enescu George Enescu (born in Liveni, Botoşani on 19th August 1881) was the greatest Romanian composer, violinist, pianist, conductor and teacher. He is considered to be one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Many of Enescu's works were influenced by Romanian folk music.

  6. NicolaeIorga Nicolae Iorga (born in Botoşani on January 17th, 1871) is the greatest Romanian historian. He was also a politician,a literary critic,a memoirist and a poet. Iorga was the founder of the Institute of South-East European Studies and was a prominent right-of-center activist. Because of his anti-Nazism attitude, he was kidnapped and killed by a fascist groupin November 27th, 1940.

ŞtefanLuchian Ștefan Luchian (born in Ştefăneşti, near Botoşani on 1st February 1868) is one of the most appreciated Romanian painter, famous for his landscapes and still life works such as: “Safta, the flower girl”, “Anemone Flowers”, “The Laundress”.Toward the end ofhis life, Luchian was no longer able to hold the painter'sbrush with his fingers, and he tied it to his wrist in order to continue painting.

  8. Queen Maria of Romania Maria of Romania (previously Princess Marie of Edinburgh) was Queen consort of Romania from 1914 to 1927, as the wife of Ferdinand of Romania. Maria had become a Romanian patriot and her influence in the country was large. It is written that King Ferdinand was "a quiet, easy-going man, of no significant character… It was not he, but Maria who ruled in Romania." During the war, she volunteered as a Red Cross nurse to help the sick and wounded.

  9. Maia Morgenstern Maia Morgenstern (born 1st May 1962) is a Romanian film and stage actress, described as "a symbol of Romanian theater and film". In the English-speaking world, she is probably best known for the role of Mary, the mother of Jesus, in Mel Gibson's “The Passion of the Christ”.

  10. HaricleeaDarclée Haricleea Darclée (1860 -1939) was a Romanian operatic soprano. She possessed a powerful and beautiful voice that was wielded with a fine technique. An extremely beautiful woman, Darclée's stage presence was as elegant and refined as her singing. Although universally admired, she displayed a coldness of temperament. Haricleea Darclée sang 58 roles on 56 operas and occupies a singular position in the universal history of the opera.

Ana Aslan Ana Aslan ( 1897-1988) was a Romanian biologist and physician She is considered to be a founding figure of gerontology and geriatrics in Romania and Europe and createdGEROVITAL, a successfulline of cosmetics. The Geriatric Institute in Bucharest was founded by her and it was the first of this kind in Romania.

Constantin Brâncuşi Constantin Brâncuși (1876 - 1957) is the most famous Romanian-born sculptor who made his career inFrance The most famous Brâncuși works include:“The Kiss” (1908), “Prometheus”(1911), “Mademoiselle Pogany” (1913), “The Newborn” (1915), “Bird in Space” (1919) and “The Column of theInfinite”, popularly known as TheEndless Column (1938). Considered to be the pioneer of modernism,Brâncuși is the father of the modern sculpture in the world.

  13. ElisabetaLipă Elisabeta Lipă (born in 1964 in Siret, Suceava) is a world-famous Romanian rower. She is the most decorated rower in the history of the Olympic Games, winning five gold medals, two silver medals and one bronze. She is the only person to win a gold medal in the two premiere rowing events.

Nadia Comăneci Nadia Elena Comăneci (born 1961) is a Romanian gymnast, winner of three Olympic gold medals at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal and the first female gymnast to be awarded a perfect score of 10 in an Olympic gymnastic event. She is also the winner of two gold medals at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. She is one of the best-known gymnasts in the world. In 2000 Comăneci was named as one of the best athletes of the century.

  15. Ilie Năstase llie Năstase (born July 19, 1946, Bucharest, Romania) is a former Romanian professional tennis player, one of the world's top players of the 70s. Năstase was World No. 1 tennis player between 1973 and 1974 . He is one of the five players in history to win more than 100 ATP professional titles (57 singles and 45 indoubles).He is the second male player to win a Grand Slam without dropping a set and the first one to achieve thisat French Open in1973.
