The Community Summer Term 1. This half term we will be; Continuing to count reliably with numbers from 1 to 20 Solving problems, including doubling, halving and sharing. Recognising numerals 1 to 5. Place numbers in order and say which is one more or one less than a given number.

This half term we will be; • Continuing to count reliably with numbers from 1 to 20 • Solving problems, including doubling, halving and sharing. • Recognising numerals 1 to 5. • Place numbers in order and say which is one more or one less than a given number. • Use the language of ‘more’ and ‘fewer’ to compare two sets of objects. • Using quantities and objects, add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. • Explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them. • Begin to use mathematical names for 2D and 3D shapes. • Recognise, create and describe patterns. • Use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and solve problems. Read Write Inc will continue as usual this half term. We now have four groups; Word time, Ditties, lower Green and Upper Green. Your child will either bring home their sounds and words or a book to read to you. Please encourage your child to read these every night. Read Write Inc
At the beginning of the term, we will be designing and creating eggs to continue our learning of Easter. • We will be carrying out lots of activities to support our learning about the Community such as; • Responding in a variety of ways to what we see, hear, smell, touch and feel. • Using our imagination in art, design, music, dance, imaginative and role-play and stories. • Making presents for a new friend. • Designing and making a visual timetable of the day. • To the tune of ‘here we go round the mulberry bush’ we will sing – this is the way we tidy up / have a drink / put on our coats etc. Expressive Arts and Design
Each week we will focus of a story that fits in with the theme of Community. For each book we will be; • Using language to imagine and recreate role and experiences. • Using talk to organise, sequence and clarify thinking, ideas, feelings and events. • Exploring and experimenting with sounds, words and text. • Retelling narratives in the correct sequence, drawing on language patterns of stories. • Using our phonic knowledge to write simple regular words and make phonetically plausible attempts at more complex words. Handle tools, objects, construction and malleable materials with increasing control. • Show awareness of space of themselves and others. • Think about how we move around the classroom and playground so we do not bump into others. Physical Development In PE we will be continuing with gymnastics and Hockey.
We are going to pretend that there is a new child starting in our class. We are going to discuss; • what kind of things he or she is going to want to know. • How do we think the new child is feeling? • How can we help the new child in our class? Personal, Social and Emotional Development • We are going to; • make our new friend welcome cards • Recap on the class and school rules
This half term we will be; • Talking about what we did before we started school. Eg went to a nursery, had a child minder. • Looking at the toys in the story of Jolly Tall and discussing how are they different? How are they the same? • Use all five senses to explore the local environment while on a community walk. • Comparing our community to China. How are they different? How are they the same? • Tasting foods from China. • Talking about school life and how it is different in China. Do they wear uniform? • Investigating smell pots – What do we think is in them? • Drawing or painting who lives in our house. • Looking at old toys and talking about people who are older than us. We will write a postcard to our grandparents and walk down to the post box to post them. • Talking about our school uniform and discussing other people in the community that wear uniforms. • Having the local postman come to talk to us about how he helps in the community. • Walking down to the local library to look at books. Understanding the World
We will be learning about the Easter Story and the Story of Noah’s Ark. RE
Our PHSE topic this half term is ‘Getting on and Falling out.’ We will be talking about what makes a good friend and how to have a calm, peaceful and safe classroom. PSHE and RRSA RRSA – Article 29. Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities to the full.
This half term we are going to be more confident with; • Logging on and off independently. • Using the mouse • Finding letters on the keyboard. • Writing words using the keyboard. • Using Paint to draw pictures. • Using Education City. • Using Espresso. ICT
LEGOLAND We will be going to Legoland on Friday 23rd May. This is the last day of this half term. A letter will be sent out with more details.
Reminders • PE is on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child has their PE kits in all week. As we are in the summer term, most PE lessons will take place outside so please make sure your child has shorts and PE shoes. • Maths homework is set on a Monday and due in on a Friday. • News homework is set on a Friday and due in on a Monday. • Sharing books are sent home on a Thursday and due in the follow Wednesday.
