  2. A truly spotless home is a rarity, but it’s something we can all strive for. From the dustless surfaces to the lack of spills and dog hair on the floor, to a sheen and shine on the bathroom tiles, making your home look truly clean is a big task, one that seems relatively impossible. Homes are meant to be lived in, and that means accepting some messes here and there. The key is having a way to quickly take care of these messes and finding a way to clean up that works best for you and your home. Not all homes are the same, since some surfaces require different cleaning regimens than others. But one thing that is fairly universal is the need for a mop. Among all these new ways to clean nowadays, which is the best? Or, more aptly, which is the best way for you? As per Slate, there is no such thing as the ideal mop, but you can get pretty close.

  3. 1. Flat Mop It’s pretty much what it says on the tin, in terms of appearance. Flat mops are sticks with rectangular sheets of absorbent material attached to one end. That material is typically disposable, allowing you to avoid cross-contamination by cleaning up messes in a single area with one sheet, switching it out for another, and going for the next area. However, while flat mops are safe and convenient given their rectangular shape, their disposable nature does make them a little pricey.

  4. 2. Steam Mop We’ve come a long way from the beginning of the commercial mop, which began around 1893 as per MadeHow.com. Today, steam mops are another option. These were invented by a South Korean woman, as per the BBC. Steam mops are essentially flat mops or regular mops, combined with a water boiler system that produces and ejects steam to kill any bacteria present on the surfaces you’re cleaning. Once the steam cools off on contact, you wipe it away along with any messes.

  5. 3. Strip Mop Strip mops are sturdy, made of artificial fibers, and reliable. They’re often the cheapest or second cheapest mops around, and if you’re looking for something to help you get a little workout in or save some cash, then a strip mop is basically perfect. Since they’re rarely if ever made of actual cloth, you have less mold and mildew to worry about than on cotton mops, and thus you can typically switch mop heads out before they begin to smell.

  6. 4. Spin Mop Spin mops are a relatively new invention in the world of mopping, like steam mops. Basically, the mop head spins on its own without the spinning of the mop’s shaft. This allows you to mop under furniture rather easily by having the mop head spin while you push it under furniture at an angle. It’s simple, and it cleans thoroughly, although there’s limited availability on a quality spin mop and bucket, especially online, where you’ll only find them at reputable sellers like Fuller. Between all these different mop types is the right one for you. Mops do come in many shapes and sizes, but they’re all meant to do the same thing. Don’t be overwhelmed by the selection of mops the next time you head into your local grocer or online store, and just pick what you feel would help you clean best.
