  3. The Basics • Official dates: October 19-30 • Takes place during school day • Seniors complete at least one application • Focuses on first-generation, low-income students • Flexible to meet your school’s needs • Low-cost/no-cost

History • American College Application Campaign started in 2005 in North Carolina • By 2014 was in all 50 states • Sponsored by American Council on Education • Nebraska held a pilot campaign last year with six high schools • 668 students completed 1,094 applications to 71 colleges • EducationQuest sponsors the Nebraska effort with help from a steering committee

  5. Why It’s Important • First official step in the college enrollment process • Reduces barriers to the application process • May increase your school’s college-going culture and rate • Especially for underrepresented students

  10. Staffing Your Event • Counselors • Faculty and staff • Administrators • Volunteers • Retired counselors, teachers, administrators • Business leaders • Community members • College representatives

  11. Day of Event • During regular school hours • Use check-in/check-out process • Give students stickers • Post on social media • Monitor: • # of students participating • # of apps submitted and to which colleges

Post-Event • Hold debrief meeting • Send thank-you notes • Submit results to EducationQuest • Via email (your aggregated student information) • # of students who participated • # of applications submitted and to which colleges • Via SurveyMonkey (your observations) • What worked/what didn’t • Impact on students • Use of materials • Future plans
