  4. 3. Smooth Muscle • Found in the walls of hollow internal organs • Contraction forces the movement of substances through a tube (blood vessels, GI tract, urinary tract, etc.) • Involuntary control • No striations

  5. Nervous Tissue

  6. Communication- detect stimuli • Coordination – integrate information • Control – transmit signals • Composed of 2 cell types: • Neurons – transmit messages • Neuroglia – provide supportive functions to the neurons Function Characteristics

  7. Nervous tissue controls the contraction of muscle tissue.
