  1. Barrel Cactus • This plant has adapted with it’s spiny thorns on it to protect the water inside. • An abiotic factor is the water it’s able to store and how even with the harsh son it loses almost nothing to aspiration. A biotic factor is that animals have adapted to get the water

  2. Triangle-Leaf Bursage • An adaptation this plant has is it’s special roots, they need little precipitation and no other plant will grow near them, lowering competition • An abiotic factor is that there is some rain which is enough to help the plant grow. A biotic factor is the passing animals that get hooked by the seed which spread the plant

  3. Brittle Bush An adaptation is the hairy leaves this plant has that lowers the loss of water to evaporation and catches water from the air to keep it’s self alive. A biotic factor for this plant is that many native Americans used it for glue, gum, and toothpaste. An Abiotic factor is that is roots are very strong and prevent erosion.

  4. Palo Verde An abiotic factor this plant is affected by is that is long roots can get most ground water to stay alive. A biotic factor is That most animals in the Sonoran Desert use it in multiple ways like shelter and food A great adaptation this plant is the bark, which acts like a giant leaf, carrying on photosynthesis when the plant has lost it’s leaves to store energy in it’s roots.

  5. Pancake Prickly Pear Cactus An adaptation this plant has is the pads on the plant store water for droughts then giving it to the rest of the plant. A biotic factor is that it is used sometimes as a crop. An abiotic factor is the amount of water it gets, the more it can store the better.

  6. Desert Ironwood A biotic factor this plant plays part in is the survival of over 500 plant and animal species. An abiotic factor is that in it’s shade it is 15 degrees cooler than in the sun. • An adaptation is this plant creates it’s own micro- habitat and provides animals with food and shelter

  7. Ocotillo A biotic factor this plant is affected by is that hummingbirds pollinate it because they like the Ocotillo honey-like nectar. An abiotic factor is that the plant can keep on using photosynthesis during very hot times, so the sun doesn’t affect. • This plant has adapted to it’s environment by shedding it’s small leaves during dry spells to conserve water.

  8. Saguaro Cactus • An abiotic factor that this plant is affected by is winds are redirected by the spines on the cactus and insulates it. A biotic factor is the many animals that adapted to eat the cactus of drink the nectar of the flower. • This plant has an adaptation of an amazing root system that has many different types of roots that help keep it alive

  9. Jumping Cholla • A biotic factor this plant is part of is with passing animals the spike will come off and leave the plant vulnerable in some places. An Abiotic factor is that if there are too strong of winds the spikes will come off. • This plant adapts with is “jumping” spines that protect the plant and keep it cool.

  10. Joshua Tree This plant affects biotic and abiotic things in many ways. Its seeds are food for Yucca Moth larvae, and in turn only the Yucca Moth can pollinate it. It’s also help humans on many occasions. An abiotic factor is it can only grow in the climate of the Mojave Desert • This plant has no particular adaptations, but many living things, humans especially, in many ways.
