We enter the classroom and begin our day at 8:00. When your child comes to school late not only does it interrupt their day, it interrupts instruction for the rest of the class. When your child does not come to school he/she misses important information and learning. Kindergarten is a hands on learning experience. Many of the activities we do in school can not be made up at home. October 13th ---- October 17th This Week This week we will be learning about: Language Arts: This week we are on Theme 3: We’re a Family, week 1 in the Houghton Mifflin Reading Series. Therefore, if you are following along in the practice book please only complete the pages in theme 3, week 1. Phonemic Awareness: Blending Onset and Rime, Segmenting Onset and Rime Phonics: Initial Consonant Tt Comprehension: Story Structure; Character/Setting; and Evaluate Vocabulary: High Frequency Words (see, my), and Family Words Fluency: We will build fluency by rereading familiar text. Math: We will continue to practice counting, patterns and our study of numbers. We will begin Chapter 4: Comparing Sets, Data and Graphing Writing: We will continue to practice writing our names and the letters of the alphabet. We will continue learning to use kindergarten spelling to add words to our story. We will also learn about characters and setting in our own writing. Science/S.Studies: We will learn about fairness. Important Dates: Permission Slips and money due for Fieldtrip Wednesday, October 1st Report Cards Sent Home October 17th Kindergarten Fieldtrip Friday, October 17th Costume Parade and Halloween Party Friday, October 31st (more info next week) On Friday, October 31st saddleback elementary will celebrate Halloween with a school wide costume parade in the afternoon. Your child should not wear his/her costume to school. Please send their costume to school in their backpack. We will be changing after lunch to get ready for the parade. Please make sure your child’s costume is appropriate for school. This includes: No weapons and No make-up or face paint. More information will come home next week regarding the parade and our classroom party! Parent-Teacher Conferences New Classroom Info It was nice to meet with you at parent-teacher conferences. Your child will bring his or her report card home on Friday inside their Friday Folder. If you have any questions about the report card please do not hesitate to contact me! Our new classroom is set up and ready for learning. Be sure to check out our classroom website to view the pictures! Our new room number is 332 and the phone extension is 2465. Support Your School Attend the Next... Use goodsearch.com when you are searching the internet at home. Each search raises $.1 for our school. School Board Meeting Wednesday, Oct 22nd @ 6pm Send Campbell soup labels and box tops for education to school. Carefully cut them out (do not cut off code), put in a ziploc bag and bring to school.
