  3. Baccalaureates“aligned with the community college mission” • May be unique and determined by each institution and their community. Part of the ‘crucial discussions”. • A cohesive program that builds upon the foundations laid in select workforce focused A.S. degrees • May focus on management, leadership, advanced practice, problem solving, etc.

The Whys • Limited Alternatives to Baccalaureate Degree Attainment, especially rural students “I would have no place else to go” • Neither Difference nor Disadvantage to Obtaining a Community College Baccalaureate Degree “I always wanted to get my degree” • The Community College Baccalaureate Degree as Key to Economic Stability “I am doing this for myself and my family, if I get this degree then my kids will know that they can do it too

Community & Industry Involvement • Modelled after Advisory Committees • Get as many industry partners involved in each degree • More robust these committees the stronger the enrollments and “vestedness” of the community • Potential Adjuncts • Jobs for Students • Internships • Capstone Projects • Keep Them Informed of Progress • Champions for the Degrees • Advanced Study Pathways

Faculty • Faculty buy-in from the inception • Comfortable with the degree’s alignment with the mission of the institution • Must be “central” in the design, development, etc. • Faculty given the opportunity to “grow into baccalaureates” • Look within: Grow your own • Years prior to degree development get faculty ready • May need more tuition reimbursement dollars • Anticipate where you are going as an institution and what resources in terms of faculty you require • Consistent requirements/benefits/ assignments/ loads/salaries

  33. The Community College Baccalaureate Association The only national organization promoting better access to the baccalaureate degree on community college campuses and which serves as a resource for information on various models for accomplishing this purpose.
