  2. Description FIGURE EIGHT KNOT Quick and convenient non-binding stopping knot. The Figure 8 knot provides a quick and useful stopping knot to prevent a line from slipping out of sight, for example, inside the tree. Its virtue is that, even after being clamped tightly against a block, it does not bind SHEET BAND Joins two ropes of unequal, or similar, size. The Sheet Bend or Weaver's Knot is recommended for joining two ropes of different sizes. The thicker string should be used for the simple loop as shown. However, it works just as well if the strings are the same size. ROUND TURN HITCH An excellent knot to securing a rope to a post or ring. The Round Turn and two (or more) Half Hitches is very useful for attaching a rope to a ring, bar, pole or dock post, although probably less secure than the Anchor (Fisherman's) Hitch. CONSTRICTOR KNOT The Constrictor knot deserves to be much better known and used. It is an excellent quick and temporary lashing for the end of a rope that is fraying, and can be used to hold the end of a rope together while it is being whipped.
