    2. The Department of Education administers the Georgia Young Farmer Program and Association because they feel it is important to emphasize lifelong learning in our states citizens. They feel agriculture is a vital part of our states economy, and instruction in new technology skills and advancement in leadership skills are important to the agricultural industry. The Georgia Young Farmer Program provides for the educational needs of those who are interested in agriculture and do not have their needs met any other groups or organizations. -Most colleges, universities, or technical schools do not have agricultural programs. -Most of the Young Georgia Farmer members are full-time employed, and other organizations are not convenient for them. -The Young Georgia Farmer Program provides instruction specific to its members interests. The Young Georgia Farmer Program may seem to be a duplicate of other organizations, such as Farm Bureau and extension services, but other organizations do not provide the same level or type of agricultural education instruction as the Young Farmer Program provides. It is essential that people are lifelong learners, and the Young Farmer Association strives to provide its members with opportunities that will increase their knowledge of new technologies and skills that would be of use to them. -The Young Farmer Association also strives to build better leadership qualities in Young Farmer Members. With better leadership qualities, Young Farmer Members will have more opportunities presented to them during their lives, and they will be better able to lead the future generations of agriculturists. -Networking is essential to survive in todays society. The Young Farmer Association wants to provide its members with the most possibilities offered in order for them to make the contacts they need for their everyday lives. -Agricultural awareness is essential in todays society, especially in urban communities.     6. Georgia Young Farmer teachers are vital to the success the state program has received. Young Farmer Advisors make sure they give their local chapters all the information they need to hone their skills for the future. -Young Farmer members are given many opportunities to take on leadership roles in the Young Farmer Program. They are also given the chance to practice their personal skills in different events in order to make themselves better leaders, whether it is in their community or in their families.-The Young Farmer Program provides ample opportunities for members to discuss their questions and concerns to leaders of the agribusiness community. Outstanding Chapter President Outstanding Chapter Outstanding Farm Family Spokesperson for Agriculture Outstanding Young Farmer Member Terrell Weeks Memorial Scholarship Awards are another opportunity where Young Farmer Members have a chance to showcase their skills and talents. All of the awards offered through the Georgia Young Farmer Program have strict criteria that must be met. Young Farmer Members feel honored when they have been selected for an award because it shows hard work really does pay off.     12. The Georgia Young Farmer Program wants its members to be the best at what they do. In order for this to be accomplished, it is essential the GYF Program provides all the opportunities it can to improve their members knowledge and skills in important subject areas. The GYF Program also provides its members with chances to further their outreach to their community and agribusinesses across the state.     13. From the information listed above, it is easy to tell that not only do Young Farmer Members believe the program is important, but communities and school officials do also. The Georgia Young Farmer Program strives to reach out to the community and do all it can to improve its quality. Without community and school officials support, the Georgia Young Farmer Program would not be as successful has it has been for the past two decades.     14. Since the Young Farmer Program was established in Georgia in 1971, it has grown tremendously from the starting 31 charters and 1050 members. The Georgia Young Farmer Program claimed the title of the largest membership in the nation in 2004.
