What are exchanges AND their benefits? • The U.S. Department of State sponsors multiple non-degree programs for educational, cultural, and professional exchanges across the world • Participants acquire or further develop: • valuable academic and professional skills • a new academic and professional network • leadership skills • personal enrichment • a greater understanding of the complexities of the world around them • new knowledge of foreign cultures and strengthening of international relationships

  3. But it means I will be many, many kilometers away. What can I expect? • Leaving the familiar behind and plunging into the unknown is not easy. It shows a commitment to understanding other people and cultures and to learning about the world in a way that books, school assignments, and a professional career can never reveal • You are not alone: before, during, and after your program! Your program and your American home institution work together to provide you the tools for a successful experience • Experience building new friendships, taking responsibility for yourself, respecting differences, and tolerating the beliefs of others. And while exploring and learning about the lives of others, discover new aspects of yourself

More EXCHANGE experience BENEFITS • Whether you live with a host family or on campus, you temporarily become part of your new environment and, in process, you become aware of the inner concerns, hopes, and dreams of a family, a neighborhood or city, a nation, and global community. And with this realization comes the corresponding knowledge of what it means to belong to your own particular country and culture • Join an exclusive alumni network and be the drive for change in your field of study, community, country, and beyond upon your return home

  5. U.S.-Funded academic exchanges for bosnia and herzegovina • High-school, undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate, and professional level exchanges • Most fields of study are eligible. Participants study, conduct research, teach, or pursue combined university teaching and research at U.S. institutions • Length varies: one academic semester to a full academic year • Scholarships are open, merit-based, awarded competitively, and are subject to availability of funds

GENERAL Selection Criteria • Academic achievement • A compelling project proposal and/or statement of purpose • Leadership potential, flexibility, and adaptability to successfully interact with the American host university and community • Willingness and ability to improve conditions in your community and home country upon return • Finalists for most programs are required to have valid TOEFL scores; the test is free of charge for finalists! • Apply and Stand Out from the Crowd!

Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD) • One-semester scholarships for non-degree, full-time study at accredited four-year institutions of higher education in the United States, combined with community service, professional development workshops, and cultural enrichment activities • First year university enrollees: submit official copies of your high school transcripts. If accepted in the program, a first year university applicant will then submit their university transcripts as they become available • Visit our webpage in Fall 2016 for 2017-2018 Global UGRAD program information

About Fulbright • The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries • The program provides participants with the opportunity to study, teach and conduct research, exchange ideas, and contribute to finding solutions to shared international concerns Senator J. Fulbright overview • The Fulbright Program operates in over 160 countries worldwide • Approximately 8,000 grants are awarded annually • Since its inception in 1946 approximately 360,000 “Fulbrighters” have participated in the program • Fulbright alumni serve in leadership positions in government, academia, business, the arts, science, journalism, and other professional fields and are the recipients of 53 Nobel Prizes among other prestigious awards

Fulbright foreign student program • Intended for independent library and/or field research toward a Master's or PhD degree • Students establish professional contacts in their field, enhance their scholarly work, and gain international experience, and personal enrichment • Apply online for the 2017-2018 academic year by June 5, 2016

Fulbright visiting scholar program • Provides individual grants to conduct post-doctoral research, lecture, or pursue combined lecturing and research at U.S. institutions, from an academic semester to a full academic year • The online application window for the academic year 2017-2018 opens on October 1, 2016

  13. Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship (A Fulbright exchange Activity) • Brings accomplished professionals from designated countries around the world to the United States at a midpoint in their careers for a year of graduate-level academic course work and professional development activities • Apply online for the 2017-2018 academic year by July 3, 2016
