  12. WHOLE Graphing scientific data cause and effect. Scientific questions look at how something is caused. When scientists ask questions, they focus on

  13. WHOLE Graphing scientific data Therefore, when scientists collect data, they look for numbers that show a cause affecting a certain result. example: how far you are from the basket affects the number of shots you’ll make

  14. WHOLE Independent variable they call the cause the independent variable. When scientists look at cause and effect,

  15. WHOLE Independent variable the IV goes on the x-axis. When we graph the data, To remind ourselves, we will use a green dot as a symbol for the IV; after all, it can roll on its own along the x-axis!

  16. WHOLE Dependent variable they call the effect the dependent variable. When scientists measure the effect of a cause that they are changing, Because it is an effect, the DV cannot change unless the IV changes first.

  17. WHOLE Dependent variable we will use a red squareto represent the DV. Because it won’t move unless the green ball hits it,

  18. WHOLE Dependent variable This symbol also tells us where the DV goes: we can stackthe red boxes up on the y-axis!

  19. WHOLE Writing a conclusion To make it easy, always simply say whether the dependent variable increases or decreases when the independent variable increases. You need to write a conclusion about your graph!
