  1. Mopra/ATCA report LBA Ops mtg - Feb ‘05 Tasso Tzioumis

Mopra - 1 • New ACC in 2004 • Teething problems - networking • All ok now • Extensive monitoring via web • Emulation of old interfaces • Remote subreflector focus • Move to Unix • Plan to retire VAX • New machine at Mopra now • Port of software underway • No progress/plans to integrate with PCFS

  3. Mopra -2 • New mm-Rx not in yet - Sept ‘05? • Mm season 1/2 old + 1/2 new Rxs • VLBI scheduled for May - avoid mm • Plan to try mm VLBI - still keen - new Rx • New 22 GHz Rx also • Remote operation • Project underway • Security and monitoring main issues • VLBI remote already possible

Mopra -3 • Network connections slow • Currently at 128 kbps • In Nov ~60kbps for monitor to Nar !! • Need to utilise more efficiently • Testing in progress • Huygens observations • 2 DAS installed • Aug ‘04 tests failed due to Vax disk failure • 512 Mbps operations successful • Special IF conversion built ( --> New Norcia?) • Real-time fringe tests ok

  5. Mopra - Issues • Needs permanent eVLBI computer • Setup still complex - specialist need • No local staff - support difficult • But Martin and Sean from ATCA at Coona and available on emergencies • Robina only local observing support

  6. ATCA -1 • New ACCs fully operational • New mm-Rx operational • New 22 GHz Rxs • Fractional MHz possible • Mixup with polarisation changes --> VLBI obs at 22 GHz in wrong polarization need to be repeated. • Phasing of array at 22 difficult • Need to experiment with setup and schedules • Schedule frequent phase-up cals?

  7. ATCA - 2 • Transition to Unix in progress • CATIE? - ported/changed? • Tsys and other logs? • Other VLBI issues? • Would like local “Narrabri VLBI person” • Missing Steven…. • Need at least 2 observers/session • eVLBI issues?
