  2. The Exodus: Moses’ Excuses I. Moses’ Excuses A. I’m not worthy (Ex. 3:11-12). God’s Response: But, I will be with you (v.12) B. I Don’t know Enough about God (Ex. 3:13-23). God’s Response: Tell them “I Am” sent you (v.14).

  3. The Exodus: Moses’ Excuses C. The people will not believe me (Exod. 4:1-9). God’s Response: Use the staff, hand and the Nile authentication process. 1. Staff—turns to a serpent. (Ex. 4:2-4) 2. Hand—turns leprous (Ex. 4:6-7) 3. Nile—waters turns to blood on dry ground (Exod. 4:8-9)

  4. The Exodus: Moses’ Excuses D. I can’t speak in public (Exod. 4:10-12). God’s Response: 1. Didn’t I Make the mouth?!! (v.11) 2. I will be with your mouth and I will teach you what to speak (v.12). E. I don’t want to go! (Exod. 4:13). God’s Response: ANGER!!! 1. Where’s Aaron?!! He’s going too!!

  5. The Exodus: The Plagues II. The Plagues. God used 10 plagues to persuade Pharaoh to release God’s people, but due to the hardness of his heart, Pharaoh refused. The result were catastrophic for Egypt, but wondrous for Israel.

  6. The Exodus: The Plagues Plague 1: Nile and water turn into blood for 7 days (Exod. 7:14-25). Plague 2: Frogs everywhere (Exod. 8:1-15). Plague 3: Gnats as Dust of the Earth (Exod. 8:16-19). Plague 4: Swarm of flies (not in Goshen)(Exod. 8:32). Plague 5: Severe Plague on Egyptian livestock (Exod. 9:1-7).

  7. The Exodus: The Plagues Plague 6: Boils on Man and Beast (Exod. 9:8-12) Plague 7: Heavy Hail such as has never been seen in Egypt (Exod. 9:13-35). Plague 8: Locusts that cover the face of the land (Exod 10:1-20). Plague 9: A Darkness to be felt (Exod. 10:21-29). Plague 10: Death of the firstborn (Exod. 12:29-32).

  8. The Exodus: The Plagues A. Purpose of the Plagues Purpose 1. To show that Yahweh alone is God (Exod. 7:17) a) Pharaoh was thought to be a God. b) Animals were of religious significance (e.g., frogs, etc). c) God alone controls nature d) Act of Judgment on Egypt’s false gods.

  9. The Exodus: The Plagues Purpose 2: Release God’s people—with stuff! (Exod. 11:1-3). Purpose 3: To Give God glory and make his name great (Exod. 9:16, Exod. 14:4).

Foreshadowing of Christ a) Male lamb without blemish (Exod. 12:5) b) Blood is the covering that protects (Exod. 12:13).

  11. The Exodus: The Passover 3. Power of the Blood(Exod. 12:23) --life is in the blood (Lev. 17:11, 14) 4. Required strict obedience to detailed instructions. a) what to eat (Exod. 12:3,8) b) how to prepare it (Exod. 12:8-10) c) What to wear (Exod. 12:11) d) How long to stay (Exod. 12:22)

  12. The Exodus: The Passover Some of us would have died that night!!!

  13. The Exodus: The Red Sea • The Dramatic Red Sea Climax (Exodus 14) A. God’s people were in Egypt 430 years (Exod. 12:40). By a strong hand God delivered his people and brought them to the Red Sea (lit. Yam Suph(Sea of Reeds).

  14. The Exodus: The Red Sea B. Israel was pinned between the mountains, Egyptians and the Red Sea. 1. The people panicked and grumbled in fear indicating that they’d rather be in Egypt than in fear running for their lives! (Exod. 14:10- 12). 2. Moses encouraged the people to be courageous, yet he cried out in earnest prayer to God (Exod. 14:15).

  15. The Exodus: The Red Sea 3. Moses stretched out the staff and using a strong East wind, God parted the Red Sea and his people crossed over on dry ground walking between two walls of water (Exod. 14:21-22). 4. Pharaoh’s army was destroyed in the sea.

  16. The Exodus: The Red Sea Israel saw the great power that the LORD used against the Egyptians, so the people feared the LORD, and they believed in the LORD and in his servant Moses. Exodus 14:31
