  1. Story of the People of Saturday Part II ICN Sisters’ Dars 2-5-13

  2. What was the original day that was given to the Jews? • Why were the Jews prevented from engaging in any worldly action on Saturday? • What is the default principle in regards to muamalaat? Review

  3. The people in the town were divided into three groups: • The first group committed the transgression • Second group that warned them • Third group remained silent Groups in the Society

And when a community among them said: "Why do you preach to a people whom Allah is about to destroy or to punish with a severe torment'' (The preachers) said: "In order to be free from guilt before your Lord (Allah), and perhaps they may fear Allah.'')  Why do you warn them?

  5. There is no benefit • Stop wasting your time • Do you really think that you are going to be able to make a difference? • These are negative actions that are dressed in naseehah • Even though we may not see the results of the dawah, it will never go to waste if two characteristics are present Common things people say to those doing Dawah

  6. Absolving ourselves from the responsibility Allah has placed on us • Remembering that perhaps Allah may Guide others through us Two Essential Aspects of Dawah

  7. Making sure that the principles of Islam are known • " إِنَّ النَّاسَ إِذَا رَأَوْا الْمُنْكَرَ فَلَمْ يُغيِّرُوهُ، أَوْشَكَ أَنْ يَعُمَّهُمُ اللهُ بِعِقَابِهِ “ • Abu Bakrرضي الله عنه said I heard Allah’s Messenger صلى الله عليه و سلم say O People if people see evil and they do not change it the punishment of Allah will be very close to all of them. • قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَنَهْلِكُ وَفِينَا الصَّالِحُونَ قَالَ ‏"‏ نَعَمْ إِذَا كَثُرَالْخَبَثُ •  I said: Allah's Messenger, would we be perished in spite of the fact that there would be good people amongst us? Thereupon he said: Of course, but only when the evil predominates. Ways to Absolve Ourselves

  8. Sometimes people want to do good, and make an effort, but are not able to do so • إِذَا ظَهَرَتِ الْمَعَاصِي فِي أُمَّتِي، عَمَّهُمُ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِعَذَابٍ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ ". فَقُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَمَا فِيهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ أُنَاسٌ صَالِحُونَ؟ قَالَ: " بَلَى ". قَالَتْ: فَكَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ أُولَئِكَ؟ قَالَ: " يُصِيبُهُمْ مَا أَصَابَ النَّاسَ، ثُمَّ يَصِيرُونَ إِلَى مَغْفِرَةٍ مِنَ اللهِ وَرِضْوَانٍ • If evil and sins appear Allah will punish everyone. I (Umm Salamah) said O Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه و سلم Aren't there righteous among them on that day? He صلى الله عليه و سلم said yes, so she responded What would happen to them? He replied they would be affected by what affects the people, but their destination would be to Allah’s pleasure and forgiveness. Musnad of Imam Ahmad • Try to do your best if you are not able to do anything then you will be rewarded for your intention Another way to absolve ourselves

  9. These people are susceptible to the punishment of Allah • وَقَدْ نَزَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي الْكِتَابِ أَنْ إِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ يُكْفَرُ بِهَا وَيُسْتَهْزَأُ بِهَا فَلَا تَقْعُدُوا مَعَهُمْ حَتَّى يَخُوضُوا فِي حَدِيثٍ غَيْرِهِ إِنَّكُمْ إِذًا مِثْلُهُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ جَامِعُ الْمُنَافِقِينَ وَالْكَافِرِينَ فِي جَهَنَّمَ جَمِيعًا (140) • 140. and it has already been revealed to You In the Book (this Qur'ân) that when You hear the Verses of Allâh being denied and mocked at, Then sit not with them, until they engage In a talk other than that; (but if You stayed with them) certainly In that case You would be like them. surely, Allâh will collect the hypocrites and disbelievers All together In Hell, People who are able to make a difference, but do not do so

  10.  مَثَلُ الْقَائِمِ عَلَى حُدُودِ اللَّهِ وَالْوَاقِعِ فِيهَا كَمَثَلِ قَوْمٍ اسْتَهَمُوا عَلَى سَفِينَةٍ، فَأَصَابَ بَعْضُهُمْ أَعْلاَهَا وَبَعْضُهُمْ أَسْفَلَهَا، فَكَانَ الَّذِينَ فِي أَسْفَلِهَا إِذَا اسْتَقَوْا مِنَ الْمَاءِ مَرُّوا عَلَى مَنْ فَوْقَهُمْ فَقَالُوا لَوْ أَنَّا خَرَقْنَا فِي نَصِيبِنَا خَرْقًا، وَلَمْ نُؤْذِ مَنْ فَوْقَنَا‏.‏ فَإِنْ يَتْرُكُوهُمْ وَمَا أَرَادُوا هَلَكُوا جَمِيعًا، وَإِنْ أَخَذُوا عَلَى أَيْدِيهِمْ نَجَوْا وَنَجَوْا جَمِيعًا • The example of the person abiding by Allah's order and restrictions in comparison to those who violate them is like the example of those persons who drew lots for their seats in a boat. Some of them got seats in the upper part, and the others in the lower. When the latter needed water, they had to go up to bring water (and that troubled the others), so they said, 'Let us make a hole in our share of the ship (and get water) saving those who are above us from troubling them. So, if the people in the upper part left the others do what they had suggested, all the people of the ship would be destroyed, but if they prevented them, both parties would be safe." AlBukhari Beautiful Example

  11. The second important goal from performing dawah is that perhaps some may accept the Message • The results are not in our hand • The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم taught us to want good for all people • ‏ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ انْفُذْ عَلَى رِسْلِكَ حَتَّى تَنْزِلَ بِسَاحَتِهِمْ ثُمَّ ادْعُهُمْ إِلَى الإِسْلاَمِ وَأَخْبِرْهُمْ بِمَا يَجِبُ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ حَقِّ اللَّهِ فِيهِ فَوَاللَّهِ لأَنْ يَهْدِيَاللَّهُبِكَ رَجُلاً وَاحِدًا خَيْرٌ لَكَ مِنْ أَنْ يَكُونَ لَكَ حُمْرُ النَّعَمِ  • (the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم ) said: Advance cautiously until you reach their open places, thereafter invite them to Islam and inform them what is obligatory for them from the rights of Allah, for, by Allah, if Allah guides aright even one person through you that is better for you than to possess the most valuable of the camels. Perhaps They May Gain Taqwa

  12. إِذَا قَالَ الرَّجُلُ هَلَكَ النَّاسُ ‏.‏ فَهُوَ أَهْلَكُهُمْ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ لاَ أَدْرِي أَهْلَكَهُمْ بِالنَّصْبِ أَوْ أَهْلَكُهُمْ بِالرَّفْعِ ‏ • Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: When a person says that people are ruined he is himself ruined. Abu Ishaq said: I do not know whether he said" ahlakahumor ahlakuhum. Harms of Thinking People Are Beyond Guidance

  13. Sincerity- our goal in giving dawah must be to please Allah سبحانه و تعالى , if it is anything else then our words and our actions will not have any benefit. If we are sincere like the Sahabah were Allah will open the eyes, ears, and hearts of people to listen to the message of Islam. Allah سبحانه و تعالى knows everything that our hearts contain, we can fool each other and act pious and sincere, but Allah knows what our hearts contain and he will reward us according to our intentions, may Allah grant us all sincerity. • When we lack sincerity we don’t give the accurate message of Islam, we may say what people want to hear, but that is not necessarily true and what people need to here. Essential Characteristics of the Daee

  14. Knowledge- the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم is our guide for everything that we do. • He spent thirteen years in Makkah teaching people about Allah, jannah and jahannam. • He was kind gentle and merciful. He had the best character. He guided people to those things that were most important. • We need to learn that. A lot of times people will ask us questions about Islam, such as hijaab, economic, political system etc. All of these things are means to the goal, which is pleasing Allah. • We need to help each other and others understand who Allah is and why he deserves our worship, and what rights he has upon us, and then everything is based on this premise. • The Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم when sending Muadh to Yemen to give dawah said “Let the first thing you call them to be the oneness of Allah.” • The Quran has the answers to many of the questions that people have we need to be educated and instead of us answering their questions check how Allah answered them in the Quran. Importance of Knowledge

  15. Acting upon the teachings of Islam • The biggest exposure many non-Muslims will have to Islam is through the behavior of Muslims. If our religion teaches honesty, justice, good character, and we act against these teachings, whether fair or not people are going to attribute these actions to Islam. • We are ambassadors of Islam. There are many stereotypes that people are hearing from the media, but when they interact with Muslims either they validate the evil that is in the peoples hearts or they begin to understand that Islam is a beautiful religion. Many people accepted Islam because of the character of their Muslim friends and coworkers. • قال بعض السلف: (كونوا دعاةً وأنتم صامتون، قالوا: وكيف ندعو ونحن صامتون؟ قال: ادعوا الناس بأخلاقكم وأعمالكم قبل أن تدعوهم بتذكيركم) • Be callers to Islam while you are silent. How do we call while we are silent. Call people through your actions and character before you call them through your words Acting on the Teachings of Islam

  16. Practice the character of the Prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم • ( ما كان الرفق في شيءٍ إلا زانه، ولا نزع من شيءٍ إلا شانه ) • 'A'isha, the wife of Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him), reported Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) as saying: Kindness is not to be found in anything but that it adds to its beauty and it is not withdrawn from anything but it makes it defective • فَبِمَا رَحْمَةٍ مِنَ اللَّهِ لِنْتَ لَهُمْ وَلَوْ كُنْتَ فَظًّا غَلِيظَ الْقَلْبِ لَانْفَضُّوا مِنْ حَوْلِكَ فَاعْفُ عَنْهُمْ وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ وَشَاوِرْهُمْ فِي الْأَمْرِ فَإِذَا عَزَمْتَ فَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُتَوَكِّلِينَ (159) • 159. and by the Mercy of Allâh, You dealt with them gently. and had You been Severe and harshhearted, they would have broken away from about you; so pass over (their faults), and ask (Allâh's) Forgiveness for them; and consult them In the affairs. Then when You have taken a decision, put Your trust In Allâh, Certainly, Allâh loves those who put their trust (in Him). Character of the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه و سلم

  18. فَلَمَّا نَسُواْ مَا ذُكِّرُواْ بِهِ﴾ • So when they forgot the reminder that had been given to them, ) when the evil doers refused the advice, • ﴿أَنجَيْنَا الَّذِينَ يَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ السُّوءِ وَأَخَذْنَا الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُواْ﴾ • We rescued those who forbade evil, but We seized who did wrong,) who committed the transgression, • ﴿بِعَذَابٍ بَئِيسٍ﴾ • with a severe torment). Allah stated that those who enjoined good were saved, while those who committed the transgression were destroyed, but He did not mention the end of those who were passive (the third group), for the compensation is comparable to the deed. This type did not do what would warrant praise, nor commit wrong so that they are admonished. • `Ikrimah said, "Ibn `Abbas said about the Ayah: `I do not know whether or not the people were saved who said • Those that did dawah were saved • Those that remained silent- Allah remained silent about their end • The criminals were turned into monkeys and pigs Results of the three groups

  19. فَلَمَّا عَتَوْا عَنْ مَا نُهُوا عَنْهُ قُلْنَا لَهُمْ كُونُوا قِرَدَةً خَاسِئِينَ (166) • 166. so when they exceeded the limits of what they were prohibited, we said to them: "Be You monkeys, despised and rejected." (it is a Severe warning to the mankind that they should not disobey what Allâh commands them to do, and be far away from what He prohibits them). Monkeys and Pigs
