GSS General Assembly Aug 27, 2014 GSS PDC 2014-2015 • This Year’s Goals • Conferences • Day-long events • Workshops/Events • 1-2 hour long presentations, panels, and networking events • Prof Dev Center • Continue to work with the university administration on the potential new center • 2013-2014 Activities • Personal Skills Conference • Professional Skills Conference Over 100 students and postdocs attended each conference!

  11. GSS General Assembly Aug 27, 2014 Activities Committee “The activities committee plans social and community service events for all graduate students. Some of the events happen right here on campus, allowing graduate students to participate in some of larger university events together such as Case for Community Day, Relay For Life, and the Hudson Relays. Other events provide students with the opportunity to see a little more of the city and enjoy their time in Cleveland, while simultaneously providing an avenue to develop friendships with students outside individual departments”

GSS General Assembly Aug 27, 2014 My goals for the committee: • Create events that encourage all graduate students to have the opportunity to have fun, relax and meet other students • Have GSS host events that connect graduate students to the CWRU and Cleveland community • Support a variety of programs and events that engaged many different students who have a variety of interests • Continue to build on past events that have been successful while finding ways to continue to be more engaging • Continue the professional collaboration with GPC and other groups and departments in events

GSS General Assembly Aug 27, 2014 What it does? • Help establish and provide recognition to graduate student initiated organizations. • Provide training to graduate students holding a leadership position in their organizations. • Allocate funding for events organized by student organizations.

GSS General Assembly Aug 27, 2014 How can you participate (and help!!)? • Becoming a committee member. • Setting up your own student organization (e.g. cultural, academic). • Encouraging your friends in your departmental organizations to get GSS recognition. • Organize events (e.g., departmental or inter-departmental) and use resources available to you!!.

GSS General Assembly Aug 27, 2014 What do you benefit? • Opportunity to go (even further!) beyond your classroom experience. • Learn how organizations function. • Establish your own organization (in the future!). • Gain additional experience necessary for holding executive positions at GSS next year. • Enrich your CV!! • Network and promote cross-disciplinary interactions.

GSS General Assembly Aug 27, 2014 GSS Task Force on Travel Funding Goals: • Develop strategies to fundraise for additional graduate student travel resources. • Identify internal and external opportunities for growing the V. Fund endowment. Looking For: • Anyone with ideas, suggestions, or concerns about funding opportunities available for graduate student travel. • Graduate students with experience fundraising, familiarity with current funding sources (such as the V. GSS General Assembly Aug 27, 2014 Task Force for Student Stipends SteffanyHomolka, sjh100@case.edu • Goals: • Increase transparency around student stipends • Identify and address stipend concerns and inequities • Programs with very low and/or time-limited stipends • Programs with stipends that are not competitive with programs of similar prestige • Plan (see handout) • Task Force Formation • If interested, please sign up! • Call for task force members to go out soon.
