  1. Women’s Prayer Tea

  2. The reality One of every ten people in the world is a Muslim woman BUT Less than 10% of Muslim background believers (MBB’s) are women

  3. Religion for Muslim Women • Muslim women must fulfill the five pillars of Islam • Confession of faith—Allah and Mohammed • Prayer five times a day—in Arabic • Fasting during Ramadan • Pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj) • Alms for the poor • Jihad- sometimes called the sixth pillar

  4. Few Muslim women ever pray in a Mosque. The Qur’an, the holy book of Islam, forbids a woman to pray when she is considered ritually unclean.

  5. Muslim Women up close and personal • Pious and Committed • Hospitable and Warm • Devoted to their children and families • Women of Prayer and Superstition • Unique Individuals Loved by God

  6. The Realities for Muslim women in Afghanistan • More than half of children are chronically malnourished • One in three children die before their fifth birthday • Most women have no access to medical care or education • Almost all Afghan women are oral communicators

  7. Too hard for God? Ah Lord God! Behold You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You. Jeremiah 32: 17 With God all things are possible! Matthew 19: 26

  8. Loving Muslim women through prayer When he saw the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few, Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.” Matthew 9:36-38

  9. Why is it so hard to pray for Muslim women? • Distance—We feel like our worlds are so far apart • Political differences—We are living in a post 9/11 world—Should we pray for our enemies?Matthew 5 • We don’t know how to pray—“We do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words … He interceeds for the saints according to the will of God.” —Romans 8:26

  10. Come let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. —Psalm 95:6 But at the evening offering I arose from my fasting…and I fell on my knees and stretched out my hands to the Lord my God. —Ezra 9:5 Kneeling and bowing are prayer positions common in Scripture, but they may be unfamiliar to some believers. Prayer positions

  11. Praying for Muslim Women • That they would believe that Jesus is the Son of God and accept the doctrine of the Trinity—God is one in three persons • That they God would use any means necessary—Scripture, Oral Scripture, dreams, visions, healings, or Christian witness to draw them to Himself • That entire families would come to faith together • Pray Scripture—Example: Psalm 146

  12. Praying for Muslim Background Believers • That they would endure in the midst of persecution • For unity within the body of Christ • That they would be spiritual mothers and grandmothers, discipling their children and grandchildren

  13. Praying for workers among Muslim women • For boldness and wisdom as they speak about salvation through Christ Jesus and for clarity as they speak in Central Asian languages • For spiritual refreshment during Bible study and worship • For health on the field and protection for their children

  14. What can you do? • Intercede for Muslim women—Advance His kingdom, by His power, for His glory • Be kind and compassionate to the stranger Salam elekem—Shalom—John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you” • Practice biblical hospitality • Give generously for the least reached • Go to the ends of the earth and take the Light to darkness
