Hypertension, particularly portal hypertension, because of the connections between the portal vein and the vena cava which occur in the rectal wall -- known as portocaval anastomose. Obesity can be a factor by increasing rectal vein pressure. Sitting for prolonged periods of time. Poor muscle tone or poor posture can result in too much pressure on the rectal veins. Pregrancy causes hypertension and increases strain during bowel movements. Excessive consumption of alcohol or caffeine can cause hemorrhoids.

The common treatment mechanism of cutting the hemorrhoids from the outermost area of anus to the root of hemorrhoids, causing a wound at the arsehold - the area with many nociceptive nerve endings would hurt patients for a long time after operation, and especially creating the anal scar and humidity.

However actually the cause of hemorrhoids is the dilatation of ligament. In Longo therapy, cutting the blood supplying tracts to the hemorrhoids and the prolapsed anal mucous membrane will be sewed and hang up, the hemorrhoids will atrophy gradually due to lack of blood supplying
