  2. 2nd Grade Standards Apply measurement skills to measure the attributes of an object (length, capacity, weight). Read temperatures on a thermometer using Fahrenheit and Celsius. • Demonstrate unit conversions •  1 foot = 12 inches  1 quart = 4 cups •  1 pound = 16 ounces  1 hour = 60 minutes •  1 day = 24 hours  1 week = 7 days, and •  1 year = 12 months.

  6. Length: the longest dimension of an object. We measure length when we want to know how long something is. Distance: is a numerical description of how far apart objects are. We measure distance when we want to know how far apart things are from on another.

  9. Directions: 1. Copy the table onto your paper. 2. Find the objects in the room. 3. Using hand span, thumb, and foot, measure the height of each object. 4. Write down everything in your chart.

  22. Capacity: is the ability to hold a fluid. We measure capacity when want to know how much fluid is in or is needed for something. Volume:is the amount of space a substance (solid or liquid) occupies or contains in a 3-D object. We measure volume when we want to know how much a solid or liquid can fill a 3-D area.
