This document outlines the current landscape of Market Surveillance Authorities (MSAs) across over 30 UNECE countries, including contact details, legislative references, and sector information. It explores available options for compiling this information into a coherent repository and potential database, addressing challenges such as search criteria, typologies, and data coherence. Suggestions for the way forward focus on gathering input from MARS experts to determine their needs and refine the delivery of information.

Gathering information on market surveillance authorities in the UNECE region:What repository?A/What database? Pierre Kohler UNECE, Trade Division
Outline • Current situation: information on market surveillance authorities (MSAs) collected so far • Available options: repository/database • Issues related to: • Compiling a repository • Building a database • Way forward Pierre Kohler, UNECE
1. Current situation Information on market surveillance authorities is available in more than 30 countries • European Commission • General: contact information for MSAs in 30 countries (+ legislative reference, sector, person in charge, etc.) NOTE: many different ways of reporting • Atex: contact information for MSAs in 31 countries • EASC/secretariat • Information for 7 countries (5 CIS countries, Brazil and Switzerland) NOTE: template respected, but not fit for a database Pierre Kohler, UNECE
2. Available options • Only a repository Question: A webpage with country sheets (// EC) or one single document? • A repository and a database Issues to be discussed in relation to the database: • Search criteria • Typologies • Template Pierre Kohler, UNECE
3.a) Compiling a repository Possibilities • Webpage with 1 document per country (EC + others) • One single and very long document • Simply merge existing documents • Provide coherence NOTE: inputs are all different and there will be many N/A QUESTION: is it really an improvement? Pierre Kohler, UNECE
3.b) Building a database • Prototype database • Countries: BLR, BRA, CHY • Available search criteria • Country • Authority (which categories?) • Sector (which categories?) • Legislative references (useful for EU, but not for non-EU) • Issues • What is needed? Which search criteria are useful to users? • Who defines categories? When? At what pace? Example of a typology for economic activities • If WP.6 needs to recollect information, it might need to prepare a new template: proposal on how to proceed? Pierre Kohler, UNECE
