YOUR JOB • Create an INFOGRAPHIC showing how the US became a World Power between 1890 and 1920 • You will be assigned a topic to research doing the above • You will need to include at least ONE picture, andONE statistic / graph • You must also write a an essay addressing the unit question: How do we use our power and influence? • Analyze the data used in your infographic and include other supporting evidence in your writing.

  6. For example … • And I could say – • The US is a World Power because we devote so much of our resources to the military ($711 billion in 2008) • We are also a World Power because that amount reflects 48% of the total world-wide spending by countries around the world (part of pie-chart) • We spend so much because we need to try and keep “World Order” – and we use our military as a deterrent to others who want to make war

  7. International Darwinism Josiah Strong Alfred Thayer Mahan Commodore Perry Open Door Policy Spanish American War Guam/Puerto Rico Hawaii Rough Riders Philippines Roosevelt Corollary Panama Canal Boxer Rebellion Dollar Diplomacy Mexican War US entry into WWI League of Nations Remember, you will be assigned a topic to research!

  8. Project Due Date • B day classes – Wednesday, December 11 • A day classes – Thursday, December 12 • You MUST use the school databases and cite your sources. • You MUST include a bibliography (MLA)! • It will again be worth 2 grades, just like the last project: Criterion C and D.
