Even the closest of buddies or even the very greatest of lovers fall out from time to time, and it’s almost a given that this will happen at least once during a shared vacation.
Travelling solo enables you to escape the torture of having someone ignoring you for days on end or glaring at you across the kitchen table. If you meet others while you’re travelling solo, and you should happen to fall out with them, walking away and never seeing them again is made far easier, and you need never see them again if you choose not to. No arguments about where you go and what you do: It’s very rare that two people (or a large group of friends or family) will want to do the same thing on vacation, and there are bound to be conflicts over certain things on the itinerary.
However, if you’re travelling alone, then you please yourself entirely and the vacation becomes everything that you had hoped it would be. No missed opportunities to connect with other travellers: If you’re travelling with a friend then you will always have someone to talk to or do things with,leaving you less inclined to make friends with other travellers who you may have lots in common with. Being alone makes it more likely that someone else will approach you, and you may even find that you find a friend for life, or at least someone fun to spend time with on your vacation.
You don’t isolate yourself from local cultures: Travelling as a pair or group of friends makes you less likely to be approached by fellow travellers, and the same applies for locals, too. If you have questions to ask about the culture and you’re travelling alone, the chances are that you’ll approach another traveller or ask a local person, helping you to have a more authentic experience. If the language is a barrier, too, you’re far less likely to learn the local lingo if you’re travelling with someone, as the propensity is there to use a phrasebook between you or simply find someone else who speaks the same language as you.
