As a research scientist at Colorado State University, I focus on the intricate interactions between aerosols, water, and climate. My recent study investigates biogenic secondary organic aerosols (BSOA) and their water uptake, which was measured to be between 90-99%. We have improved the theoretical models describing BSOA water uptake and are exploring processes related to homogeneous freezing and heterogeneous ice nucleation at temperatures below -40°C. This research aims to identify the role of secondary organic aerosols in ice initiation and their effects on climate dynamics.

Some things I do • Research Scientist, Colorado State University • Interested in aerosol-water-cloud-climate interactions, particularly (biogenic secondary) organic aerosols • Recent study • measurements of water uptake 90-99%; improved theoretical descriptions of BSOA water uptake • moving to colder temperatures: homogeneous freezing (ice) of haze (< -40C) and heterogeneous ice nucleation; identify potential role of SOA in ice initiation
