  9. OPERACIONES UNITARIAS Una operación unitaria puede definirse como un área del proceso o un equipo donde se incorporan materiales, insumos o materias primas y ocurre una función determinada, son actividades básicas que forman parte del proceso.

  10. Otra definiciòn: “Operaciones Unitarias es todo proceso conducido en cualquier escala que puede descomponerse en una serie ordenada de lo que pudieran llamarse OPERACIONES UNITARIAS, como pulverización, secado, cristalización, filtración, evaporación, destilación…El numero de estas operaciones básicas no es muy grande y generalmente unas cuantas de ellas intervienen en un proceso determinado”. Este concepto fue introducido en 1915 por el profesor Little del MassachusstesInstitute of Technology (M.I.T).
