  5. ABOUT US: 50% Indonesian? • Catholic by religion and Javanese by ethnicity • Brought up in a Catholic Values in combination with traditional Javanese Values • Educated from Catholic Schools

  6. THE MARRIAGE • “They are no longer two but one flesh. So then, what God has united, no one must tear apart." (Matthew 19:6). • My husband and I work outside the house, with three sons and live in the suburb area of Jakarta  housekeepers and baby sitter played important role in taking care the children while parents are not at home

The baby sitter and housekeeper are Moslems, and as a sign of respect to their faith • we prefer not to cook pork • they have time to pray (salat,the second pillar of Islam)five times a day, attend prayers held in the mosque each night called tarawih, to fast (the fourth pillar of Islam) during the month of Ramadhan and have a two-week holiday to return to their hometown for Idul Fitri at the end of the fast. • By showing respect to our housekeeper and baby sitter, we trust that our children will learn that respecting and loving others is the most essential of human relationships.

  9. Salt of the Earth and Light of the world (Matthew 5:13-16) You are salt for the earth; but if salt loses its taste, what will make it salty again? It is good for nothing, and can only be thrown out to be trampled under people’s feet. You are light for the world. A city built on a hilltop cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub; they put it on the lamp-stand where it shines for everyone in the house. In the same way your light must shine in people’s sigh, so that, they may give praise to your Father in heaven."

  14. OPTION FOR THE POOR AND THE MARGINALIZED COMMUNITY • STREET CHILDREN • WORKING CHILDREN • CHILDREN IN CONFLICT WITH THE LAW • SEX WORKERS • DROP OUT GIRLS • WOMEN OF POOR FAMILY

  15. 1 Corinthians 13: 4-7 “Love is always patient and kind; love is never jealous; love is not boastful or conceited, it is never rude and never seeks its own advantage, it does not take offence or store up grievances. Love does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but finds its joy in the truth. It is always ready to make allowances, to trust, to hope and to endure whatever comes”.

  16. LOVE IS FUNDAMENTAL TO ALL RELATIONSHIPS • Within the family: • respect to the housekeeper • In our neighborhood: • let them know who we are and how we do dialogue with Jesus

  17. With colleagues in the working place: • keep loving them although they have difficulty in accepting • inclusive, low-profile, and moderate • always do our best • set a modest expectation

  18. CONCLUSION • One hundred percent Catholic and one hundred percent Indonesian. • Respecting others who are different from us should be start from your family, all member of the family should work together to grow love in their hearts. • “Flowing but not washed away”
