Example of the New 2013 Curriculum Examine how related student organizations are integral parts of career and technology education courses through leadership development, school and community service projects, and competitive events. 2.1 Research the history of FCCLA.2.2 Discuss the mission, purpose, motto, colors, official dress and other distinguishing characteristics of FCCLA. 2.3 Explain how participation in FCCLA can promote lifelong responsibility for community service and professional growth and development 2.4 Create a personal leadership plan to participate in programs, conferences, community service and competitive events on the local, state, and national level that align with the competencies, skills and knowledge of this course.

Example of Integration FCS-FS-2: Students will define food science and explore careers in food science • Define the study of food science and summarize how food products and processing methods have changed in modern history due to contributions of food scientists. • Describe the history of the development of food and food systems emphasizing the transition from hunting and gathering to farming and then to market-based societies . • Analyze how studying food science now can benefit one in the future. • Identify scientific equipment found in the laboratory and how to properly and safely use it. • Evaluate and list careers in food science and list the educational requirements. • Participation is suggested, but not limited to the following FCCLA competitive events/national programs which will strengthen the knowledge acquired in this standard: Career Investigation, Career Connections, Job Interview, Leaders At Work.

  7. Steps For Using An FCCLA State Or National Program Select a program that fits your FACS, Culinary or Education Program and member’s interest. Learn about the program by accessing online resources. Talk with other advisers. Help members learn about the program and provide resources. Start small, with a short-term project or single activity. Publicize your project.

  8. National Program Examples Career Connection guides students to develop, plan, carry out, and evaluate projects within six units, focusing activities on different aspects of career development. Example: Conduct personal interest inventories to determine student’s interests, strengths, and abilities. Use the inventories to guide students in a career exploration project. Students create a career portfolio that creates a plan for meeting their future career goals.
