  1. Two Months with Bb6How much aspirin is still in the bottle? Dennis Dormady Associate Professor, Computing Systems Jacksonville Universty

  2. In the Pre-Times • JU was at Bb 5.5.X • At its height, about 85% “adoption” • Probably 40% more than syllabus posters • Decision was made to believe Bb 6.X would be well tested before release • *sigh*

  3. The Install • Purchased new system for new BB 6 • So old Bb 5 ser ver would be available for archival purposes • Installed Redhat Linux 8.0 • Installed Bb 6.0 – failure • Tech support took over 7 days to respond; response was by a Windows Tech.

  4. The Install • Tech • First “We need all your passwords” • Determination – Install Redhat 7.2 • *sigh* • Redhat 7.2 installed, updated • Java installed, updated • Bb 6.0. Installed • It Runs!

  5. Uh oh… • No start/stop script! • No info on proper startup/shutdown • Of BB • Of Oracle • Missed the “Stop to Think” Option • And experimented (bwahaha!) • OOPS! • Got “practice” reinstalling, then called Bb Support • Finally figured out start/stop scripts

  6. Time to “Let loose the Users!” • Training seminars set! • First Seminar – 20 faculty.. • “Um..gradebook entry isn’t in order”

  7. More problems.. • More problems started showing up • Timeout on Grade • Listserv discussions get more “interesting” • Eric Kunnen’s List of Issues • Patches, hotfixes, and finally, a Linux Tech!

  8. Faculty moan, groan, leave • Imported courses rather than migrated, based on horror stories • Some courses imported “most interestingly” • Gradebook, test deployment, and test timeouts!

  9. Baltimore Gripe Session Set • I brought TUMS to share • David Yaskin of Bb buys a round • Some Pictures from Gripe Session • Answers, promises, “hope for the future”

  10. Recommendations If you haven’t upgraded, WAIT! Bb 6.2 on hold until Bb “6.1” fully tested and released “May-ish” If you have gone live, keep up with hotfixes and patches. Behind.blackboard.com Read the Listservs! BBADMIN-L@asu.edu, BLKBRD-L@asu.edu, bb-id@list.wpunj.edu Stock appropriate medications
