Horizon 2020 -EU‘stoolforgrowthandjobs • Europe 2020 • …. is the EU's growth strategy for the coming decade. • …. the EU wants to become a smart, sustainable and inclusive economy. • …. these three mutually reinforcing priorities should help the EU and the Member States deliver high levels of employment, productivity and social cohesion. • Horizon 2020 • …. is a key pillar of “Innovation Union”, a Europe 2020 flagship initiative aimed at enhancing Europe's global competitiveness. • …. 4. OurfullsupportforHorizon 2020 Horizon 2020 will be essential to strengthen the European economy through R&I, while at the same time addressing the major societal challenges that Europe is facing. The structure of Horizon 2020 introduces a much needed streamlining of the EU R&I funding programs. However, it is important to clarify how the three strategic objectives identified by Horizon 2020 – excellent science, industrial leadership and societal challenges – will be coordinated. Moving to industrial leadership: Let me stress that European business is highly committed to R&I and to bring new solutions to the market. Business participation is therefore crucial and needs to be closely monitored.

  5. Innovation needs a broadspectrumof Industrial Technologies Innovations F125! - High Tech on Wheels – Designedand Made in Europe

  6. Modern Manufacturing Generates High Added Value andthusWealth Industry will be the engine of the new low-carbon, resource-efficient and knowledge-based economy

  7. Key Messages • Manufacturing is indispensable for Europe, since Europe’s wealth is based on tangible products! • For its’ economy, employment, as a key enabler to others, and it must be the duty of the European Commission to support manufacturing in Europe and thus keeping innovation and production in Europe. • 2. Manufacturing is Key to tackle Europe’s ‘Grand Societal Challenges’ • Manufacturing has a critical “enabling” role. Europe has to be at the forefront in manufacturing to keep its competitive edge. • Europe’s ability to innovate and thus its competitiveness benefits from the direct link of R&D activities and manufacturing. The loss of these activities will undermine the capacity to invent, innovate, and compete. • R&D is no means in itself, but an indispensable business necessity • Therefore, our commitment should not stop at the level of the co-funding of Research and Innovation activities, but should also cover the uptake of research results by industry. Our community is prepared to go into this direction by complementing the Roadmap with necessary elements, from vision to R&D strategic investments, to industrial priorities, to expected impact on European industries’ competitiveness.
