The Puritan society, established by 400 settlers from England in 1629, sought religious freedom and aimed to create a "nation of saints." They founded the Massachusetts Bay Colony and spread into areas like New Haven and Connecticut. Their life centered around agriculture, fishing, and trade, with strong community laws rooted in their interpretations of the Bible. Emphasizing hard work, self-examination, and specific gender roles, the Puritans upheld strict moral codes, rejecting worldliness. Education was prioritized, leading to the first free schooling for all children, promoting Bible-centered learning.
