  1. Welcome to Pre-K3!! My name is Mrs. Newton. I am excited to start a new year! Aide: Mrs. Letizia Pre-K4 Teacher: Mrs. Battelini Pre-K4/afternoon aide: Mrs. Ianni My email is anewton@smrschool.org which can be found on the school website www.smrschool.org

  2. Addition to Supplies • Please add a crayon bag to your supply list • One soft crayon bag, with a zipper, any style • Please write your child’s name on the bag • PLEASE do not run out and purchase it tonight – By the end of next week is fine

  3. Allergies • Please let me know before you leave today of ANY allergies your child has, whether severe or not • Also, let me know of any medical conditions that I should be aware of (even if you already submitted information to the nurse)

  4. Drop Off • Please enter through the gate, park in a designated parking spot, turn off your car, and walk your child into the glass doors that enter into the Pre-K4 room. • The door will be open until 8:45am • If you arrive after 8:45, you must enter through the front office and sign your child in • Please exit the same way you entered, through Pre-K4 • Bus students will be assisted to their classrooms by their buddy

  5. AM Dismissal • AM dismissal is between 12:15-12:30 • Please enter through the front of the school, drive past the main office, and park outside the double doors by Pre-K3. • Please park in a line, one behind the other • When you see a teacher open the doors, you may walk to the entrance to get your child

  6. PM Dismissal • Please enter through the gate and drive around to the double glass doors • Form a line around the edge of the school • Please stay in your car; a teacher or safety will walk your child to your car • Please be patient the first week of school, as the line will move slow • Older siblings will not be dismissed until 3:10

  7. Walk through of a typical day… • Drop off • Morning routine/Bathroom break • Morning Lessons • Lunch/ recess/ bathroom break • Dismissal for AM at 12:15-12:30 • Nap/snack • Activity • Dismissal at 3:00 (3:10 for rest of the school)

  8. Lunch • Children will eat in the cafeteria • Pre-K has the option to pack or buy the school lunch daily • If buying, you may pay daily, weekly, or monthly • Each child receives a pin number and the money is loaded on their account • As they purchase lunch, the money is deducted • If you run into a negative balance, NurtiServe will inform you

  9. Lunch, cont. • If your child will be purchasing lunch, PLEASE let me know which items they will be getting • Each day, there are five choices, so please have your child decide before the start of the day, and write their choice on a note for me • You may also circle the choices on the lunch menu for the month, and return the completed menu to us- We will check the menu daily • All money sent in must be put in an envelope with your child’s name, grade, and teacher

  10. Lunch, cont. • Please know that I send home any uneaten food so that parents know how much their child ate (unless, of course, it is an open yogurt or something that can not be sent home). • You will see half eaten sandwiches, etc. simply to inform you what your child ate (unless it is something that will spoil or leak) • If your child bought lunch, and did not eat it, I will write you a note

  11. Nap • Children may keep a stuffed animal, pillow, and blanket on their cot • Please no toys, barbies, or talking stuffed animals • Children do not have to sleep, but must remain on their cot for all of nap time • Sheets will be sent home every 2 weeks to be washed; please return them the next day your child attends school • There is NO nap on half days

  12. Snack • All PM children will eat snack every day after nap • Snack/drink is not provided; it must be sent in by parent daily • Snack/drink is to be placed in snack basket in the morning • Even if your child purchases a school lunch, a snack AND drink must still be provided • We have emergency snacks if a child forgets one day

  13. Show and Tell • Show and Tell is done daily, starting Sept 10; each child gets a turn once a week • A show and tell calendar, along with a monthly newsletter, are sent home at the beginning of each month • If your child is absent on their scheduled show and tell day, they may bring it when they return to school • If your child simply forgets their show and tell but is present in school, they must wait until their next scheduled show and tell day

  14. Accidents • All children must keep a change of clothes in school at all times • If a child has an accident, their clothes will be sent home in a plastic bag and a new set needs to be sent in the next day they are in school • If accidents become a habit for any child, a conference will be set up with the parents to discuss further measures

  15. Behavior Board • All students will start every day on the color green • When the child gets a warning for a certain action, their starfish/seahorse will be moved to yellow. If they continue the action, they will be moved to red and receive some type of consequence depending on the situation (time out, separated from group, etc.) • After time out (or appropriate consequence), the child will be moved back to green. • If your child was moved to red, a letter will be sent home stating when and why

  16. Sign-In Board • This will not begin for at least a few weeks; I will let you know when we will begin • When the child enters the room for the day, the first thing they will do after hanging up their things, is find their name at the sign-in board. Depending on their ability, they will trace their name with their finger, a marker, and write it on paper • This allows every child to have exposer to writing their name every day they are present, since I can not work with every child individually each time they are present

  17. Field Trips/Musicals • This year, the students will attend two field trips (pending school approval) • Storybook Land – Oct • Park Picnic – June • The students will also preform in two musicals – one in December and one in June

  18. Birthday Treats • Children will be allowed to bring in birthday treats (depending on allergies) • We will celebrate birthdays in the cafeteria after lunch • Please, one snack only, and no drinks • You may also take advantage of the birthday program offered through NurtiServe

  19. Room Parents • There is a sign up sheet for room parents in the Open House packet • If you would like to help for a party/activity, please fill out the form and return it to me • To give everyone a chance, you may not be chose to help for every party • Please note that Pre-K’s parties and times differ from the rest of the school – if you sign up to be a PTA representative, some of the information may not pertain to preschool (school functions only, not parties)

  20. Curriculum • Language Arts (colors, shapes, letters, concepts such as left/right, opposites, etc) - *Writing first name • Math (counting, counting backwards, number recognition) • Religion (We are all Special, God made the world) • Science (bugs, plants, body parts, dinosaurs, weather, seasons, good hygiene) • Safety (wear your helmet, stranger danger) • Cooking class done monthly • Gym, music, library, Spanish • Separation anxiety, sharing, socialization, school norms • Good Manners • Personal information (last name, address, phone #)
