Introduction • To hold cultural and social record designs. • To transform a way-point into a landmark destination. • Hypothetical reclamation of land to form a man-made island 120 meters off the coast of Doha, near to Katara Beach • The situation of the site is in Doha’s prestigious West Bay District and looks across the water to the iconic multi-use development, The Pearl-Qatar. • Main building to be in between the man-made Island site • The area of the island is 300,00m2 or 30 Hectare and the site will be 60,000m2 or 6 Hectare located within the infrastructure of the island • The proposed island will include a rail/road terminal, green space, and sustainable infrastructure such as a tidal lagoon, solar arrays and other forms of renewable energy. • A key component of the design brief will be built complying to ‘Zero Carbon’ built environment, in line with the goals of the Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC) and in compliance with LEED and the Qatar Sustainability Assessment System (QSAS) • All project teams should target design in compliance with LEED Gold status.

  3. Design Requirements • Design requirements are provided in three formats: • BQL2012-Design-Brief.pptx • BQL2012-Site.pdf • BQL2012-site.ifc • Gross areas may be varied by +/- 10%

  4. Required Material • Model files: one or more coordinated IFC files • A federated set of BIM models in IFC format  <teamname>_<discipline>.ifc • No need to duplicate site context model provided. • Images: a sequence of up to 20 images <teamname>_01.jpg to_20.jpg • First: introduction • Six focussed on explaining the design • Six focussed on collaboration and experience • Six focussed on technical assessments • Last: participants • Optional • Optional Movie: movie <teamname>.mp3/avi • not longer than 2 minutes • A3 sized 2D representations and reports <teamname>_01.pdf to _05.pdf • not more than 5

Criteria • Use of BIM for Design, Drama and Excitement • design impact and clarity • compliance to the brief • the best presentation to explain the design • Multi-disciplinary BIM  & use of Interoperability • involvement of multiple disciplines and applications • use of technology to ‘check’ the design  • continuous updating of the ASITE collaboration server • Use of BIM for technical assessment • sustainability and use • constructability • business case and cost
