  4. ELEMENTARY EDUCATION • The Union Territory has adopted the pattern of Gujarat State Providing Elementary Education from STD. 1st to 7th. • We propose to adopt the pattern of providing Elementary Education from STD. 1st to 8th from 2010-11.

  10. Progress made during 2009-10 • MDM is being served to 60 students at the AIE center. • 235 Cooks/helpers [97% women] belonging to weaker section from rural areas are employed. • Proposal for additional 25 cook-cum Helper is to be engaged during the current year as per revised norm

  11. Actual Implementation of MDM • District Panchayat is implementing the scheme. The CEO of the District Panchayat is the administrative head. • By observing the codal formalities as per MDM Guidelines, GFR, DFP and Goi instructions, the supplier are selected as per the rate quoted lowest. • The supplier deliver the cooking ingredients as per the order given directly to the schools. • The payment of cooking cost are released on monthly basis after the suppliers submit the bills (along with delivery challan given by respective H.M. of schools) to this office

  12. System for Monitoring Mid Day Meal • Monitoring at the School level is done by the MTA/PTA/VEC members and also the teachers and Headmasters. District level monitoring is done by the ADE, ADEI, and supervisor. • The State level monitoring cum steering committee and the District level monitoring committee were constituted. these committees review the overall performance. • The PTA, The MTA and the VEC members visit the schools and monitor the meals prepared. They check the food prepared and record their opinion/suggestions in a register maintained at school level. • MahilaMandal was also involved to monitor the implementation in of the Programme 2010-11.

  15. Nutrition Status • In U. T. Administration of Daman & Diu, the Medical and Public Health is conducting “School Health Check-up Programme” in all schools regularly. • The health institutions provide nutrition supplement and iron tablets to the children after medical checkup. • “Health card” is introduced to record the nutrition profile-age group-wise, weight and height-wise for the primary and upper primary children.

  17. DRINKING WATER ALL THE SCHOOLS ARE PROVIDED WITH SAFE DRINKING WATER (R. O. PLANT) in Daman In Diu proposal for R.O plants at Upper primary level added this year SSA proposal

  18. Food Grains Allocation & Utilization for the year 2009-2010 :- Figurers in MTs

Mode of transportation of food grains • The food grains is lifted from FCI Valsad for Daman District and for Diu District lifted from FCI Veraval in case non-availibity Rajkot (FCI Ware house). • The Food grain is then Stored at the Store Room. Thereafter, food grains are supplied to the various schools in advance as per their requirement monthly. • Checking of Quantity and Quality of FCI Depot Food grain is done by Nodal Officer, official of Civil Supply Department and officials of FCI and representative of District Panchayat.

  20. PREPARING OF HOT COOKED MEALS • The hot cooked meals are prepared in every school by engaging Helpers and Cooks. 235 cooks/helpers [134 in Daman and 101 in Diu] are engaged most of them are belonging to weaker section of the population. Every school in provided with three gas cylinders of 19 kgs with Gas Stove and necessary cooking equipments also.

  21. Preparation Mid Day Meal Scheme (Primary & U. Primary) • 100 grams (Primary) & 150 grams (U. Primary) rice per day per child • For primary 20 gram Dal and U. Primary 30 gram Dal (Tur/Mung) per day per child • 50 gm in Primary & 75 gm in U. Primary oil per day per child • Other ingredients items like Salt, Chilli, Haldi, Dhania-jeera powder etc. to be used as per taste. • Green Vegetables 50 grms for Pry. & 75 grms. Upper Pry. Fruits every day.

Proposal for the year 2010-11 • Proposal for providing Meal up to Standard VIII has been included in Elementary Education in current year. • Additional 6 new kitchen shed is propose d for construction. • Proposal for one Private School to provide Mid-day Meal to these children as they belong to the poor class and do not get proper nutrition at home.
