  9. 2009/2011 Options Students guided on to appropriate curriculum routes - pathways

  10. 2009/11 Options Pathways mean: • Better results • Better experience • Better prospects • More enjoyment • Less disaffection • Less misbehaviour

  11. Common subjects Per fortnight • English – 8 lessons • Mathematics – 7 lessons • Science – 10 lessons • PE – 4 lessons • RE – 2 lessons • Citizenship - rotates • ICT – minimum 1 lesson

  13. Pathways. • Equal value, but different • All 3 pathways have choices within them • Other schools – zero • “to provide an experience that stimulates, motivates and extends ALL learners” QCA March 2008

  14. Red pathway • Traditional route, GCSE orientated. • Pupils get three choices. • Broad selection. • 20 different options in total.

  15. Green pathway • Level 2 non examination BTEC course (fills 2 choices). • These are equivalent to 2 or 4 GCSEs at grades A* - C. • They will also have a choice of GCSE and other courses. • 26 different options in total.

  16. Blue pathway • Work related / vocational pathway (fills 2 choices) • 25 options in total. • One day per week at college. • Enhanced outcomes at level 2 (A* – C). • Will follow one other option in school.

  17. Diploma’s • These are new to the area but were introduced nationally in 2008. • These generate 7 GCSEs at Level 2 (A*-C grades). • Involve working with other schools. • Take up 40% of curriculum time. • Interested pupils will be spoken to individually. • Engineering. Business, Administration and Finance. Society, Health and Development.

  18. How will pupils be guided? • Professional, realistic judgement. • The pathway will be relative to their ability, strengths and learning style. • Achievement, attainment and predictive data will be used. • Pastoral input. • Parental input. • Individual decisions.
