Issues amongst the Americans • The cold war and the Cuban missiles crisis in 1962. • Kennedy assassinated in 1963. • Lyndon Johnson became president in 1963. • Vietnam , a ceased fire had divided the country into two . • Martin Luther King Jr. leading the civil rights movement , made his I have a dream speech in 1963, received nobel peace prize in 1964, assassinated in 1968 . • 1961 soviet union launched the first man into space. • Vicious acts of racism such as bombing churches, burning crosses, lynching . • Race riots Jackie Kennedy had a signature look the pillbox hat and a wool suite it was a chic sophistication style .

Those who influenced the fashion world • Jackie Kennedy • The beatles always stayed ahead of the crowd . • Rolling stones were introduced, but not at the peak of there career . • Motown was more of the ready to wear American style .   4. Women's’ fashion • Hair : early 60’s hair was suppose to be full like the beehive but it was difficult to tease and set . But as the 60’s evolved the look became more slim and the hair was shorter but more narrow and face fitting . • Make-up : was baby faced and light colored and made to make the women look soft in the face and not loud .   5. Men’s fashion • Men started to think more about their appearance “style conscious”. Men had neater hair cuts and well styled hair cut, hair salons became a common place for men . • The mob style came about when Motown was in its prime the Beatles took that look and adored it and admitted to being fans of the Motown artist. The mob look was turtlenecks and ties that were brightly colored and more daring colors but subtle at the same time .

And 192 ysl created his own label which contributed to many of the decades fads, including Mondrian shift dress, safari jackets, pea coat and le smoking tuxedo Pucci: recognized for his trademark colorful psychedelic prints . He contributed to other trends as well in the 60’s . PaccoRabanne: originally a jewelry designer , he used the same sensibility for clothing Mary Quant: quintessential swinging sixties designs is credited with popularizing the mini skirt not creating it . Ossie Clark: made a name by dress the celebrities along with his wife Celia Bitwell who designed textiles for his collections . His design epitomized the 60s
