  2. PURPOSE OF THE EVENING • Introduction to life Post 16 and an opportunity for parents to ask questions • Opportunity to collect information about the courses offered at Stoke Park School • To speak with staff:- Post 16 tutors Subject staff

  3. What are my options beyond GCSE? • Employment • Employment with training • Vocational courses at college • Academic courses at college • Vocational courses at other schools • Academic and /or vocational courses at Stoke Park Sixth Form

  4. The new Sixth Form Centre was opened in the summer term of 2008 This year has been the first year of it being fully occupied by over 200 sixth form students

  5. Why Stoke Park Sixth Form? • Excellent examination results • Students achieve their potential • Friendly, knowledgeable subject teachers • Experienced tutors who act as academic and personal mentors • Excellent and improving resources and facilities • Extra curricular opportunities

What are my options? • You have the choice of studying for a range of science, arts and humanities subjects at AS level • You can mix a range of AS levels and vocational courses at level 2 or 3 • You have the choice of studying for BTEC and Applied courses at levels 2 and 3 • You can access a WRL pathway and combine level 1 and 2 courses • You have the opportunity to combine all academic study with work experience or community service activities

(what’s in it for me?) • Having more qualifications opens up the choices available to you at the age of 18 • Development of higher order skills • Development of your character, social skills and personality • Growth in self-confidence in familiar surroundings and with familiar people • Responsibility, independence and self-motivation

What can I expect from Stoke Park Sixth Form? • Subject support -regular monitoring and assessment of work and progress being made • Pastoral support, guidance and advice • Guidance and help with higher education applications and careers • High standards of teaching and varieties of teaching and learning styles • Managed home study! • Plenty of opportunities to improve your social life • Opportunities to get involved with whole school activities

EXPECTATIONS OF POST 16STUDENTS AT STOKE PARK • Attendance • Wherever possible please avoid family holidays during term times • Avoid making appointments e.g. Doctors, Dentist, Driving Lessons in taught time • Code of Conduct • Responsible attitude • Good role model for younger students • Work at full potential • Work to deadlines • Manage own time effectively • Independent study in school • Homework and study done at home • Contribute to the life of the Sixth Form • Contribute to the school and community

  22. What is the next step? • To get our option choices and timetabling right for you : • YOU MUST COMPLETE THE INITIAL TRAWL IN PSE LESSON TODAY OR WEDNESDAY AND RETURN IT TO YOUR TEACHER • IF THERE ARE COURSES YOU WANT TO STUDY THAT WE DON’T OFFER WRITE THEM DOWN!

What’s the next step? • Every student will have an individual interview in the forthcoming week about your choices and future career. • If you intend on studying at Stoke Park complete an application form and hand it in to Miss Kirk by Friday 30th January • From these application forms option blocking will be compiled • Final timetable produced and students who are affected will be seen and options discussed (February) • …………….

  24. ……………(continued) • Details of induction residential distributed (February) • GCSE examinations revised for (from now!) and sat (May/June) • Sixth Form Induction (dates tba) • Examination Results Day (Thursday 27th August) when each student needs to agree personal curriculum with Miss Kirk, Mrs Arch or a member of the sixth form staff
