Who should do this course and how can it help me in the future? • This course is designed for students who enjoy physical activity and would like to seek employment within the health and sport industry. It also provides students with regular opportunities to participate in physical activity. • This course would be of great benefit to anyone wishing to take up a career as a sports coach, personal trainer, sports administrator, professional athlete, sports administrator and other health and sport related vocations. The SLR course may also provide credit towards a variety of TAFE courses and may be beneficial to students wishing to study health related subjects at university. Sport, lifestyle and recreation • This course can be studied as a one or two unit subject • SLR is a non-ATARsubject. • 1 Unit = 3 periods of study per week. • 2 Unit = 6 periods of study per week. • Both a theory (30%) and practical (70%) based subject – not just sport. SPORT, LIFESTYLE AND RECREATION • Within this course the class selects 2 - 3 (1 Unit) and 6 - 12 (2 Unit) topics over 2 years from a list of 15 different areas e.g.: * Games and Sports * Aquatics * Individual Games and Sports * Athletics * First Aid and Sport Injuries * Dance * Sports Administration * Fitness * Outdoor Recreation * Gymnastics * Resistance Training * Healthy Lifestyle * Sports Coaching and Training * Social Perspectives of Games and Sports Learning for life Care – Achieve – Respect - Engage

  6. Who should do this course and how can it help me in the future? • This course is designed to accommodate students wishing to explore health and the human body in detail. The course provides a foundation for students with a special or vocational interest in human movement, medical and health science, and individual and community health issues and who wish to continue their studies at a tertiary level. • This course is ideal for students who wish to seek employment or complete further study related to health through university. Such vocations include medical sciences, physiotherapy, dentistry, pharmacology, radiotherapy, nursing, PDHPE teaching, health promotion and other health and medical related fields.   7. 2 unit pdhpe • This is an ATARsubject. • Theoretical based subject where students study and explore a range of practical and health related concepts. • The only practical that is involved is based around laboratories and testing of biomechanical, fitness and skill acquisition principles. • HSC exam is a 3 hour written examination Learning for life Care – Achieve – Respect - Engage

  8. 2 unit pdhpe • The Preliminary HSC course consists of two core modules representing 60% of course time. An options component representing 40% of course time includes four options of which students are to study two. CORE STRANDS (60%) • Better Health for Individuals (30%) • The Body in Motion (30%) OPTIONS (40%) • Select two of the following options: •  First Aid (20%) •  Composition and Performance (20%) •  Fitness Choices (20%) •  Outdoor Recreation (20%) Learning for life Care – Achieve – Respect - Engage

  9. 2 unit pdhpe • The HSC course consists of two core modules representing 60% of course time. An options component representing 40% of course time includes five options of which students are to study two.   12. Tafe/private institutions Studying PDHPE and/or SLR will give you an advantage in many courses offered at TAFE, private institutions and other nation wide courses.   13. cost • PDHPE subject fees include $60 in Year 11 plus additional costs for compulsory excursions such as workshops where applicable. • SLR course costs $30 per year plus excursions where relevant.
