Some possible reasons for lack of livestock impact studies in developing countries • Measurement (1) – lack of data • Not much livestock in census and household survey data • Indicators of livestock productivity can be hard to measure (output over time, multiple products) • Measurement (2) – what to measure? • Multiple roles of livestock in livelihoods • Technology (1) - Fewer “technologies” to assess • Less research done, longer time lag for technology development • Technology (2) –Adoption/diffusion more difficult
