  1. GRE SUBJECT TEST VS GRE GENERAL TEST When taking a GRE test for admission, a candidate should consider both the General Test and the Subject Test. As the name suggests, these two tests are entirely different. In essence, the general test focuses on evaluating one's skill in critical thinking and analytical skills. In contrast, the subject test is meant to analyze your capabilities in a specific field related to the one he or she wishes to apply for. THE GENERAL TEST The GRE General Test is an advanced degree that can be taken into account by various colleges, but that can also be a way for a person to understand his or her options. This test mainly focuses on questioning applicants on topics that will point up the way they think, and whether it is compatible with the idea of thinking of either the graduate or the professional school they are applying for. For this exact reason, the main topics applicants will find in their GRE General Test sections are: ● Verbal Reasoning, which examines the applicant's ability to understand, analyze, summarize both literal and figurative intent, the meaning of words and their usage in a sentence. ● Quantitative Reasoning, which focuses on one's ability to analyze, comprehend, and solve quantitative problems and information using mathematical skills. Therefore, this section takes into account one's arithmetical, algebraic and geometrical skills; ● Analytical Writing, which takes into account one's ability to think critically and his/her writing skills. In this section, applicants will have to prove their capability to expose complex ideas, supporting those with good relevant examples and reasons. GRE General Tests can be taken by all students coming from different educational or cultural backgrounds. However, they are usually undertaken by students who intend to pursue a career in the business, law, or medical field. THE SUBJECT TEST GRE Subject Tests are the ones that applicants can decide to take in addition to the GRE General Tests. Although they are not mandatory, submitting a GRE Subject Test with a GRE General Test allows students to stand out more compared to students who submit GRE General ones.

  2. A GRE Subject Test is an achievement test that allows students to measure their skills in a specific field or subject. Therefore it is a valuable certificate that can let admission committees see precisely what is the level of the student and whether he/ she can prove to be an excellent addition to the school or not. In other words, a GRE Subject Test can be crucial in accepting a student in a college. Dissimilar from the GRE General Test condition, students who decide to take the GRE Subject Test usually have an undergraduate major or an unusually broad background of the specific area for which they are taking the test, which can be chosen amongst these six disciplines: ● Literature ● Mathematics ● Psychology ● Biology ● Chemistry ● Physics GRE SUBJECT VS GRE GENERAL What makes the GRE Subject Test different from the GRE General one? The four main differences are: ● Point: GRE General Test aims to test the critical and analytical skills. GRE Subject Test, on the contrary, allows students to make their skills in one specific area. This can be crucial in their admission to the desired university; ● Structure: As previously said, GRE General Test is structured in a way that allows examiners to see one's generic skills and way of thinking in different fields of knowledge, while GRE Subject Test is structured in a way that points out your proficiency in one specific area among the six ones aforementioned; ● Submission: while GRE General Tests can be taken both on a computer device or with paper, GRE Subject ones are only paper-submitted; ● Score: GRE General Tests have a score-scale of 130 to 170, while GRE Subject Tests have a score-scale that goes from 200 to 990.
