  2. All students must fulfill LCC General Education Core requirements in order to be awarded an associates degree

  3. What is Core Used For? • Core is designed to cover important areas of knowledge and skills • Is needed for LCC Associate Degrees only

  4. What Core is NOT • A Core course is not necessarily a general education requirement at a 4 year institution • It is not universal between community colleges

  5. More Information About Core: • A Core class requires at least a 2.0 • A higher grade may be necessary for a selective admissions program • All Core classes have at least some prerequisite reading, writing and/or math levels • If you already have an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university, you do not need to meet Core requirements at LCC* *see Core policy sheet for exceptions or contact a counselor or academic advisor at 517.483.1904 or eadvising@lcc.edu

  14. Core courses and requirements are specific to the year consistent with the curricular guide you are following. The preceding core requirements correspond with the 2009-10 academic year.

A Few Things to Remember: • Must earn minimum of a 2.0 in each general education core course • When choosing your core courses, please be aware that the selection of courses available to meet the core is based on the date of your curriculum guide • Some majors will require a specific course that might meet a core requirement. Please consult your curricular guide for that information or contact an academic advisor or counselor at 517.483.1904 or eadvising@lcc.edu for assistance • A student is eligible to have general education core requirements waived if he/she possesses another associate degree or higher, but program-required core courses must still be met. So… To Summarize • There are 5 core areas….Communications, Science, Mathematics, Global Perspectives/Diversity and Writing • Core is needed for LCC Associate degrees only • A minimum of a 2.0 must be earned in the class to satisfy Core • Core courses will not necessarily transfer to a 4-year institution • All Core courses will require at least some reading, writing and/or prerequisite levels As always, any questions can be directed to Counseling and Advising Center at 517.483.1904 oreadvising@lcc.edu
