  4. 2009 Significant Events • On August 12, 2009 HFD was dispatched to an odor of gas just before midnight • The location of the incident was a State of Hawaii office building • Only occupants in the seven story building are a janitorial crew • Gas Company confirms they have no service line to the building • HFD initiates a surveillance and investigates

  5. 2009 Significant Events • HM crews detect presence of gas • Unable to pinpoint a source • Explosion occurs • Gas Company arrives and discover a leak in a supply main on the street fronting the building • Gas being introduced via the electrical conduits servicing the building

  6. 2009 Significant Events • On May 16, 2009 HFD responds to a tower collapse • One worker missing • USAR search dog deployed • HFD USAR team trained for light and medium disciplines • HFD coordinates private industry heavy equipment use • Need to develop a heavy USAR discipline

  7. 2009 Significant Events • On May 22, 2009 HFD responds to a chlorine leak • HM team is inspects a one ton chlorine tank • A bulge at one end discovered; appears in a matter of minutes • Possible instantaneous release • Immediate evacuation • Better notification needs by Emergency Management

  8. 2009 Wildland Fire Season • Oahu Wildland Coordinating Group conducts a pre-season meeting • Group expanding to include private industry • Better coordination with other government agencies • Mutual aid among all fire agencies outstanding • Economy and governmental downsizing affecting resources provided • Mild fire season • FMAG review of policy regarding State cumulative protocol

  9. HFD Updates • Fleet Upgrade • A year ago One CAFS Tanker and CAFS SKED unit • 2009 acquire 7 CAFS Pumpers • 2010 take delivery of 3 CAFS Pumpers • Plans to acquire two Quints and a two piece ladder • Two wildland CAFS trucks • Portable CAFS pumps (ATV and Backpack)
