  1. Instructional Leadership in Assessment A joint project between Medicine Hat School District # 76 and the Alberta Assessment Consortium

  2. Background A world-wide research base substantiates the positive impact of formative assessment on student learning. Specific, descriptive feedback in the absence of grades has been shown to be one of the most effective strategies for improving student learning. In like manner, leaders and teachers also benefit from formative feedback as they seek to enhance their leadership skills and improve their practice.

  3. The Alberta Assessment Consortium (AAC) has applied for and received a three-year conditional grant from Alberta Education to support the implementation of the Professional Practice Competencies for School Leaders in Alberta (PPCSLA) targeting Professional Practice Competency #4 – Providing Instructional Leadership with a specific focus on assessment.
