Profile The Organisation of Tourism Education and Training (O.T.E.K) is the specialized Greek state institution that provides education and training for professions in the field of Tourism . • O.T.E.K operates as a legal entity of Public Law, under the supervision of the Ministry of Tourism. Since its founding in 1937, it has supplied the tourism market with 200.000 professionals. • Today, O.T.E.K includes the former Schools of Tourism Professions and the Schools for Tour Guides. The new form of O.T.E.K signals its role in the reorganization and modernization of tourism education and training in Greece, and in the creation of a modern system for the accreditation of the professional qualifications in the tourism sector. O.T.E.K' s infrastructure • 20 modern educational units in 17 cities and towns of Greece. • 2 school establishments operating as hotels during the summer season. • Modern workshops for practical training – Informatics laboratories – Lending libraries. • Career Office in liaison with the job market, in order to promote the O.T.E.K's graduates' employment. • O.T.E.K offers: • Attendance free of charge for Greek students and those issuing from E.U countries. • Paid practical training in selected hotels and tourism enterprises in Greece and abroad. • Scholarships for further studies abroad.

  5. Higher Education ADVANCED SCHOOLS OF TOURISM EDUCATION :Higher Education preparing graduates for advanced executive posts in the hospitality industry. Training centers: 1. Advanced School of Tourism Education of Rhodes (A.S.T.E.R) 2.  Advanced School of Tourism Education of Agios Nikolaos, Crete (A.S.T.E.A.N) Admission requirements The admission procedure and the prerequisities for attendance are determined by the Ministry of Education, 15 Metropoleos str, Athens. Attendance The studies last 7 semesters. Each academic year consists of two terms: The Academic Term starts in October and ends in June. The Practical Training Term starts in July and finishes at the end of September. It consists of working in selected hotel enterprises under the supervision of O.T.E.K.  

  6. POST-SECONDARY VOCATIONAL EDUCATION Schools for Tourist Guides Training centers: Schools for Tourist Guides operate permanently in Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion and Corfu. Admission requirements: Students are admitted through entrance examinations.  Prospective applicants must be Greek nationals or subjects of countries - members of the E. U. or foreigners of Greek origin . They must have completed the secondary  education. Foreign candidates must have proficiency in Greek language. Candidates take entrance examinations on the following subjects: Foreign languages Critical Essay in Greek language Greek History Geography of Greece. Successful candidates have an interview, through which the general Knowledge and competences,are assessed, in relation to the qualifications required for the Tourist Guide profession. Attendance : The duration of studies is 2,5 years.  Course attendance is compulsory.  The educational program consists of theoretical classes and educational visits and trips. Modules 1 st semester Ancient History, Byzantine History, Prehistoric Archaeology, Classic Archaeology, Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Archaeology- Frankish Domination, History of Theatre, Science of Religion, Greek Mythology,History of Ancient Greek Literature,Geography, Guiding Technique, Tourist Guiding. 2 nd semester Ancient History, Byzantine History, Prehistoric Archaeology, Classic Archaeology, Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Archaeology - Frankish Domination,History of the Art, Science of Religion, Geology-Paleontology-Speleology, First Aid, Guiding Technique, Tourist Guiding. 3 rd semester Modern History, Classic Archaeology, Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Archaeology - Frankish Domination, History of the Art, Modern Greek Literature,Ecology -Environmental Preservation, Archaeological Legislation.4 th semester Modern History, Classic Archaeology, Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Archaeology - Frankish Domination, History of the Art, History of the Art,History of Greek Music and Dances, Ecology-Environmental Preservation, Speech Training. 5 th semester History of Modern Greek Architecture - Styles,Tourism Development-Tourist Legislation,Travel Agencies - Hotel Enterprises, Tourist Psychology.

Modules • 1 st semester: Introduction to Tourism, Culinary Art, Restaurant Techniques, Housekeeping, Economic Mathematics, Principles of Management, Principles of Economics. • 2 nd semester: Commercial Food Production, Bar-Beverages-Oenology, Introduction to P.C's, , Food & Beverage Management, Statistics, Principles of Accounting. • 3 rd semester: F & B Operations Management, Front Office Operations, Tourism Economics, Architecture-Hotel Assets, Business Accounting, Elements of Law. Optional Modules: Tourism Sociology or Tourism Psychology. • 4 th semester: Main Courant, Hotel Logistics, Greek Tourism Geography, Human Resources Management, English Tourism Terminology, 2 nd Foreign Language Tourism Terminology. • 5 th semester: Hospitality Marketing, Financial Management, Tourism Law, Hospitality Management, Hotel Assets Management, Intercultural Education and Communication in Tourism. Optional Modules: Tourism Market Research or Tourism Consumer Behaviour • 6 th semester: Business Tourism, Promotion of Tourism Product, Operations in Hotel Logistics, Entrepreneurship, Career seminar, Hotel Animation.   9. Admission Requirements : Candidates must have completed the Secondary Education. For the specialisation of the Housekeeper Assistant, candidates must have completed the junior high-school. Applicants are admitted following a selection procedure, under O.T.E.K.'s supervision. Attendance : Attendance is compulsory.The studies last 2 year, for all specialisations, except for the Housekeeper Assistant course, which last 1 year. Each school year consists of two terms : 1. The Academic Term starts in October and ends in June. 2. The Practical Training Term starts in July and finishes in September. It consists of working in hotel enterprises, air companies, cruise ships, selected by O.T.E.K.

Continuing Vocational Training Courses for Unqualified Employees Since its founding in 1937, O.T.E.K. offers courses in several Greek cities for professionals working in tourist enterprises, self-employed individuals in the hospitality industry, as well as those temporarily unemployed, who have only empirical knowledge of their field. Students have the opportunity to systematize and update their technical abilities as well as to acquire the necessary theoretical knowledge, in order to improve their performance in the area of customer service. Moreover, the courses aim at enhancing employment opportunities, developing an entrepreneurial spirit and reinforcing the adaptability of tourism enterprises and professionals to the rapid developments in the hospitality industry.
