  1. Knox County Public Schools Educational Technology implementation plan 2012-2016

Mission: • To provide the technology necessary for all students to enter a technologically advance business world with the skills necessary to excel by providing the leading edge technology products and teachers that are trained to provide the technological skills needed to enter any professional field.

  3. Technology Update Current Technology Updated Technology • Current technology in the school system is below standard. In order to stay relevant in education technologies must meet or exceed current Federal and State standards. • Update to infrastructure needed – Bandwidth, voice technologies, and mobile technologies are in the lower half of the state.

  4. Technology Strengths and Weaknesses Strengths • Strong technology in special needs classes • Tech savvy student population • Strong educator technology background • Close relationship with local businesses Weaknesses • Technology in the school system is 3-5 years behind • Small IT staff currently • Extensive wiring required to update infrastructure in some schools • Equitable access not present across classes

  5. Continuing Professional Development Continuing professional development will be required and structured to allow all faculty to spend time working on the technology. Strong continual professional development will allow faculty to more effectively implement the technology into the curriculum.

  6. Conclusion • Technology innovation in the classroom is very important. In order to fully develop students and prepare them for a technological world Knox county must update the hardware, software, and general infrastructure of the school. • Strong professional development, a solid funding plan, and the continued backing of the local business community will ensure a successful implementation that brings a solid technical education for all students.
