  2. History • Originally built in 1956 • County hospital • 50 beds some with telemetry • Two bed ED • Had specialties such as • OB • Pediatrics • Surgery • Medical • ED • Radiology • Lab • Respiratory • OR • Very little OP care done • Group of 5 physicians

Nurses Open Access to Pharmacy • Pharmacy on site 4 hours daily • No Automated Dispensing Cabinets • Multi-dose bottles of Medications • No Pre-printed Order Sets • Variability of Monitoring of Drug Levels • Medications Delivered via Medication Carts • Lack of Regular Anticoagulation Therapy Monitoring

  4. Partnering With the University of Florida – Flex Grant Money • Began in 2002 • Vast amount of resources became available • Initiation of net working • Sharing of lessons learned • No technology available to run systems • Developed medication safety team

  5. Change is Good – you go first • Phase 1 Purchased ADC Medical/Surgical IP unit • Phase 2 Purchased ADC for Emergency Room Education to prepare for HMN input of orders hired Consultant • Phase 3 Technology is here profiling of patients 24/7 Medication carts are gone Charging is automated

  6. Current State • 25 bed Critical Care Hospital • Fully JCAHO accredited since 80’s • New ED, 10 bed - 20,000 visits annualized • 58,000 square footage • MRI on site • 180,000 medications delivered • Payroll 12 million yearly • Net revenue 25 million annually

  7. Health Management Associates • 60 hospitals strong • Core services – pharmacy included • Home office Naples Florida • Data driven – currently 2nd in core measures in nation, soon to be 1st • Own three CAH’s • For profit publically traded  • Press Ganey vendor for satisfaction
