Admission Requirements BSc Degrees: In addition to having a full matriculation exemption or conditional exemption certificate a student must also meet the requirement of Maths and English passed at Senior Certificate level with at least 40% Higher Grade or 50 % Standard Grade. OR New NSC Degree with Mathematics and English passed with at least a rating of 4. Note that Mathematical Literacy is NOT ACCEPTABLE.

  4. Acceptable Foreign Mathematics and English • Mathematics & English passed at A- level (Symbols A-E) • Mathematics & English passed at HIGSCE level. (Grades 1-3) • Mathematics offered at a foreign accredited University • Certidao – Mathematics & English passed with 12 or higher • Any other Foreign Mathematics or English must be referred to :

  5. Acceptable Foreign Physical Science • Physics and Chemistry are done separately in most cases. • Physical Science or Chemistry passed at A-level. (Symbols A-E) • Physical Science or Chemistry passed at HIGSCE level (Grades 1-3 • For the Engineering Diplomas : Integrated Science at A- level. (Symbols A-E) • Certidao - Physical Science passed with 12 or higher.

A student who has not passed Mathematics as stipulated above, for the BSC Degrees, must register for MAT0511 for NDP and may register for a maximum of 4 modules from the list below: • AST1631 • BLG1502 • STA1501 • COS1511 • CSS101H • GGH1501 • PYC1501 • PHY1501 • CHE1500 • BLG1603 • STA1510 • INF1505 • EUP1501 • GGH1502 • PYC1502 • PHY1502

NB: Students who have not done Mathematics up to grade 12 (or highest foreign schooling), MAY NOT register for MAT0511.The abovementioned modules may only be taken provided MAT0511 is also registered for. REREGISTRATION for MAT0511 may not exceed 2 years. A student who has not passed English as stipulated above, must register for CSS101H.

  8. Honours Degrees: Bachelors degree with the relevant major subject passed with an average of 60%. ALL HONOURS APPLICATIONS MUST BE REFERRED TO THE RELEVANT DEPARTMENT FOR APPROVAL. Prospective Honours applicants may apply for student numbers from 06 December 2010 until 31 January 2011.

MINING & ENGINEERING DIPLOMAS NSC (Degree or Diploma) with Mathematics, English, Physical Science & (Engineering and Technology or a Computer subject) passed with a rating of 4 OR Senior Certificate with at least E(40%) for Higher Grade Mathematics, English &Physical Science or at least D(50%) for Standard Grade Mathematics, English & Physical Science OR an N3 or N4 Certificate with Mathematics, English, Industrial Chemistry & Engineering Science passed with at least 50%.

  10. ND: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY: A National Senior Certificate OR NSC (Degree or Diploma) VERY IMPORTANT: Students must have access to an Internet Café or a Unisa Regional Learning Centre or any other Internet Facility. After registration, access to myUnisa on a regular basis is compulsory.

  11. Baccalaureus Technologiae Relevant National Diploma – refer to myRegistration for more detailed admission requirements. Prospective BTECH applicants may apply for student numbers from 06 December 2010 until 31 January 2011.

  12. Bachelor of Consumer Science/ Bachelor of Human Ecology: Matric exemption OR New NSC with degree endorsement.

  13. BSC Agricultural Science: Matric exemption with Maths, Physical Science & (Biology or Geography or Agriculture), SG ‘E’ OR New NSC Degree with Maths, Physical Science & (Biology or Geography or Agriculture) with a rating code of 3.

  14. National Diploma: Animal Health NSC (Diploma) with Mathematics, English & Physical Science or Biology passed with a rating of 3 OR Senior Certificate with at least E(40%) for Higher Grade Mathematics, English & Physical Science or Biology or at least D(50%) for Standard Grade Mathematics, English & Physical Science or Biology.

  15. National Diploma: Nature Conservation NSC (Diploma) with a pass in Biology or Geography or Agricultural Science or Science OR Senior Certificate with a pass in Biology or Geography or Agricultural Science or Science.

  16. Baccalaureus Technologiae : Nature Conservation NB.The closing date for new applications for the above qualification is 31 October 2010.However, we will still refer new applications after this date. Acceptance for the 2011 academic year will be at the discretion of the academics.

  17. National Diploma: Agricultural Management NSC (Diploma) with Mathematics, Biology & Physical Science passed with a rating of 2 OR Senior Certificate with at least E(40%) for Higher Grade Mathematics, Biology & Physical Science or at least D(50%) for Standard Grade Mathematics, Biology & Physical Science.

  18. Changes for 2011 Kxx’.x Hons BSC Chemistry: the following modules will only be offered from 2012.
