  1. High Temp. Oxidation and Corrosion Studies of Metals and Alloys The operating temperature up to 1700 °C combined with a sample capacity of 100 grams makes this instrument ideal for analyzing ceramics and metal powder injection molded parts exposed for varying temperature and time. It is a very sensitive instrument for the accurate measurement (in micron level) of change in weight of the materials/components or any large heterogeneous sample per unit time. System information Make: Thermo Electron (Karlsruche), Gmbh, Germany The instrument consists of two major parts (a) Balance • Digital recording microbalance with Capacity of 1 gm to 100 gms weight change • Sensitivity or resolution ± 1µg • Maximum vacuum: 5 x 10 -5 torr • Pressure relief valve • Controlled temperature zone so that whole mass is at same temperature • Sample volume: 29 ml (b) Furnace • Temperature Range: room temperature to 1700 °C • Temperature stability: ± 1 °C • Temperature repeatability: ± 3 °C • Heating rates: 0.1 to 100 °C/min • Controlled temperature zone: 50 mm • Visual display of temperature • It has four gas inlets, for carrying out the studies under different gaseous environment. Output data & Analysis Continuous recording of change in mass per unit time and oxidation kinetics plots (Change in mass Vs. time).
