  4. Be ye kind … • One to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ Jesus has forgiven you • Ephesians 4:32)

  5. Note the “just as …” • How many times does Jesus forgive us? • How much does Jesus forgive us? • How much do we deserve to be forgiven?

  6. What does this mean? (Luther) • We are asking God to answer our prayers even though we do not deserve it,

  7. Luther, continued • We ask God to answer our prayers by His grace, for we do sin and deserve punishment, and need to rely on His forgiveness.

  8. Luther, continued • Realizing this will cause us to forgive those who do bad things to us.

  10. How sure we are of forgiveness: • If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins, and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:8-9.)

  11. What if we don’t feel like forgiving? • God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. (Romans 5:5.)

  12. We prayed “Thy Kingdom come.” • For God has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness, and brought us into the Kingdom of His beloved son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1:13-14)

  13. Compare the Kingdoms: • Kingdom of Darkness: • People don’t forgive each other. • Kingdom of God: • People do forgive each other.

  14. What about you? • When you don’t forgive, which kingdom are you choosing to live in? • What to do when you notice this?

  15. That’s why … • After teaching the Lord’s prayer. Jesus added: • For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. • (Matthew 6:14-15)
