West Transdanubian Region - Overview • Location: Austria, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia • 3 counties, 28 cities, 626 settlements • Area: 11 328 km2 • Population: 1 million • GDP per capita: • 9900 EUR (10.7% of Hungary’s GDP) • Unemployment rate: 9.2% • GDP distribution by sectors: • Agriculture: 5.1%, Industry: 43.5%, Service:51.3%

West Transdanubian Regional Development Agency Our mission: ‘Implementing the comprehensive territorial development programme of the West-Transdanubian Region through involving the most possible stakeholders in the joint planning and work.’ Size: almost 80 employees in 5 cities of the region • Activities: • Regional coordination: management and administrative body of the WTRDC • IB of Regional Operational Programme • Strategic planning and project development • Participation in international EU funded projects • Establishing and fostering co-operations with regional, national and international organisations

West Pannon Operational Programme 2007-2013 Overall objective: To establish an economic and public service infrastructure in line with the regional environment through environmentally consciously planned development in order to promote growth and employment. • Priorities / (Interventions) • Regional economic development • Tourism development • Urban development • 3.2 Improvement of the infrastructural criteria of local and regional community transport • Environment and transport infrastructure development • 4.5 Development of regional transport links • Infrastructural development of local and territorial public services

  5. Areas and funds of the ROP regarding transport development WPOP: 525.9 million Euro Priority 3 – Urban development and Priority 4 – Environment and transport infrastructure Transport development: 53.48 million EUR (10.17% of WPOP)

  6. Beneficiaries • Municipalities and municipal associations • Transport companies providing public services: • Hungarian State Railway (MÁV), Volán bus companies, GYSEV railway company • Hungarian Public Road Company • National Infrastructure DevelopingCompany

Some results so far… Number of approved projects: 60 Number of projects implemented: 34 36 km long new cycle paths with signposting 88 km long road renewal 9 new road junctions More than 350 new bus stations and bus terminals Improved passenger information services Application of info-communication tools Increasing number of P+R and B+R services Establishing the basis for transport alliances

Some sample projects Increase the number of PT users Create a higher level service in PT system ↓ E.g.: real time passenger information on board, on internet, on mobile, in stations, for visually impaired, ticket vending machines, green way request, traffic data collection, renovated stations ‘Complex development for the dynamic and sustainable community transportin Sopron and its agglomeration area’ • Establish modern bus infrastructure ‘Development of intermodal transport system in the area of GYSEV Co. Railway line’ • Establish integrated train-bus services • ‘Safe and sustainable cycling at the Neusiedler See cultural landscape’ • Establish cycling facilities between 6municipalities
