Shakespearean play formats • Shakespeare used a type of play format called, Five act play. • Act 1 He presented the conflict of the story or the tensions. • Act 2 He presented the Complications of the story • Act 3 He present’s The Climax of Action which is the highest point of the conflict • Act 4 He does the falling action. (momentum slows down) • Act 5 he ends it with a catastrophe.

  3. Kinds of plays • Shakespeare only wrote three types of plays, but he wrote 38 that are categorized as…. • Tragedies • Comedies • Histories

Elizabethan England view of theater • The Theater became central to Elizabethan social life. • The theater had attracted criticism, censorship, and scorn from some of the English society. • Elizabethan theaters had been dirty and loud but had attracted a large audience. About 3,000 from all social classes.

  5. Theater as a political weapon • The theater was a political weapon because some play writers would write controversial works which would lead them in jail. • The Shakespearean theater had challenged the social and natural hierarchies

  6. Queen Elizabeth’s view of theater • Queen Elizabeth loved the plays Shakespeare wrote. Especially his drama plays • She was also greatly pleased with the theater
