  3. THE TRIP’S VALUE THE TRIP’S VALUE It will reinforce pupils’ knowledge of a key part of the National Curriculum. It will bring history ‘to life’ enabling pupils to visualise and connect with the past.

  4. THE TRIP’S VALUE THE TRIP’S VALUE Team building / shared experience Most importantly, it’s hoped that the trip will help pupils to develop a broad and deep respect for life and humanity and ensure that their generation never allow destruction on this (or any) scale to happen again.

ITINERARY Saturday: Sunday: travel, midday ferry, dinner in Ypres events in Ypres (last post, Ypres museum, walk the Ypres ramparts, marching bands), dinner in Ypres options- visits within 30 minutes of Ypres or visits around the Somme ( 1.5 hours away) if we visit the Somme on Monday then visits within 30 minutes of Ypres or Bruges Monday: Tuesday:

  17. THE LAST POST  A CEREMONY THAT HAS TAKEN PLACE EVERY DAY SINCE 1921 (EXCEPT DURING WWII)  This year Heathfield pupils will lay a wreath and take part in the ceremony.

  19. WHAT PUPILS NEED WHAT PUPILS NEED  Passport and European health card should be with staff (as pupils get on the bus) https://www.ehic.org.uk/Internet/home.do  Travel insurance is through Somerset County council  Roughly 50-100 Euros.  PACKED LUNCH FOR Saturday

WHAT PUPILS NEED WHAT PUPILS NEED  Sensible clothes; IT WILL BE MUDDY & COLD and probably rain.  Pillows (for coach) Towel  Wellies  Camera (at own risk)  MP3 player (at own risk)  Mobile (at own risk)  Warm hoody  No high heels!  Spare socks  Trainers  Bin bags / plastic bags for dirty clothes
